Description
No one with a formal education in biology or psychology identifies as "otherkin".Neither does anyone with a formal college/university education, for that matter.
Make what you will of it.

I find Otherkin just as ridiculous as any other religion or spiritual belief. But whatever, I don't mind Otherkins if they aren't total dickwads.

Otherkin is a spiritual matter which science cannot prove existence of and therefore can't disprove either.

Then why do so many otherkin believe they actually are their kintypes? I can list examples of that if you want.

It's based off reincarnation, which is a spiritual belief.

I believe there is a possibility in the existence of anything I can't prove scientifically doesn't exists, but, that also doesn't mean it does. Religion is a theory. Nothing more, nothing less.

I also think believing in something doesn't make it true. That's for all beliefs.

most all is mental illness or people trying to be edgy/different, that science can disprove.

I know what mental illness is. I have 20 years of experience in the field. Reincarnation is a spiritual belief. It's the same way how Christians believe they can feel god around them. Does that make them mentally ill? Besides, mental illness is a imaginary term. Everyone has a different thinking process. They are just labels to define a thinking pattern that can sometimes cause anguish for the person or they're family. Nobody is "crazy" here.

I know some are different, but all the ones I talk to are severely mentality Ill and think that they are actually dragons. As a Buddhist who does belive in reincarnation you have to be on the highest spiritual plain and give up all worldly thing to see past lives. That includes the Internet.
Just a question, how can you think mental illness is fake if you have experience with it?

You mean like people who think that they are married to fictional character and they literally completely believe that? 'Cause personally, I have some wiccan views. I also believe "anything is possible" and "most things you can't prove exist you also can't prove don't exist". But, I still prize my sanity very much and with the problems I do have I am proud to not be delusional or hallucinate. Also, I didn't saw it was fake. I said it was a way to classify people's thought process and it's doesn't define you as a person. Mentally Ill people are just as human as anyone else.

so you believe in every single religions god as they can't be disproved? believing one is a dragon reincarnated and enjoy pyromaniacs is not sane. also, how the hell did you get a mental heath degree? isn't it possible that otherkin is all hogwash? possibility is a never ending coin.

I didn't say I had a degree. I have autism, depression, anxiety, and bipolar as well as a survivor of rape and abuse. I know the field because I am the field. And no. I believe if you can't prove something exists then it maybe might. For example as you said say a person believes they are a dragon reincarnated. I very highly doubt dragons exist or ever did, but, you shouldn't treat a person like crap just because they have an outrageous belief. That doesn't make them less of person. They may do things that are perceived annoying or stupid, but, they aren't doing it on purpose. They are just trying to be who they think they are. But, if that hurts someone or breaks the law, like starting a fire, then they need to suffer the consequences. Whether or not they believe they were a dragon at one time, they are human right now and need act like it to a certain degree and if they die and reincarnate then being human would be the same part of them. This is the life they are meant to live and if they truly believed in reincarnation they know that them being human has a purpose at this point and time.

you said you have 20 years experience in the field, that is what doctors say. and yeah, most otherkin I know of do dangerous or illegal things, and they refused to be treated as human. I have spend half my life medicated for life treating things and in the hospital and don't claim to know everything about it. you said you believe in everything but doubt dragons ever exited? ok...

dogs are dogs, cats are cats, and humans are humans. there is no way to prove otherwise. crack the skull open by a shrink and you will still be human no matter what you feel or believe in. Christians say Jesus is physically in their hearts. what do you say about them?

Again, I have no opinion or both until subject is proven or disproven.
How I handle beliefs:
Erwin Schrödinger, the Austrian quantum physicist, has been which depicts his most widely-known contribution to the field: the Schrödinger’s Cat mind experiment.
In the hypothetical experiment, which the physicist devised in 1935, a cat is placed in a sealed box along with a radioactive sample, a Geiger counter and a bottle of poison.
If the Geiger counter detects that the radioactive material has decayed, it will trigger the smashing of the bottle of poison and the cat will be killed.
The experiment was designed to illustrate the flaws of the ‘Copenhagen interpretation’ of quantum mechanics, which states that a particle exists in all states at once until observed.
If the Copenhagen interpretation suggests the radioactive material can have simultaneously decayed and not decayed in the sealed environment, then it follows the cat too is both alive and dead until the box is opened.

but no doubt it was always a cat, not a human being who thought they were. if that was the case he'd put a otherkin in there. I really don't see what that has to do with otherkin. crack open a otherkin body and skull and it has all the workings of a human being. otherkin don't live in the woods, I would think a animal wouldn't be too happy in a skyscraper or using a computer. they only select cool fictional characters and animals and only the nice traits. most all otherkin that are forced to see a doctor have 10+ mental disorders that include dissociations, one or more schizoid disorder, PTSD, or a very bad childhood. hell, I've dissociated before into a state were I thought I was some kind of coyote. in my state of that time I thought it was awesome but I moved on back to realty.

I have no idea what half of that meant. It's was a scientific theory, damn it, not a cat. Just don't people like crap, okay? That's MY whole reason for this conversation. Whether they're otherkin or mentally ill or both, nobody is better than anyone else so stop stereotype and shit. I know what it's like to be hurt by that. What you do with that, I couldn't care less.

I feel like identifying as otherkin is a defense mechanism for people who are not satisfied with having a certain trait. That trait may be undesirable for humans but an animal also with that trait has redeeming traits which the otherkin adapts onto themself???
