Description Made with the image drawn for Kitten on RagnaInfo.net, one of the winners of my auction, which is a very long and complicated story but anyways.

I was asked to take in progress photos of my marker work and I decided to just make a tutorial out of the photos. This is the first tutorial I've made like this for deviantART and it took a full 4 hours to put together, so I hope people like it and I would love to have some feedback. The image is of Kitten's huntress Kari Evelyn.

This is a freakin' fantastic tutorial which would've helped me IF I had enough money to buy any copics. ;
I was just wondering what kind of paper you use?
My old art teacher would only let us use the school copics if we had bleed proof paper on hand.
Thanks ahead, if you answer this for me. ^^

I use the Copic Paper Selections #6 at A4 size, which is sold at most Kinokuniya Japanese bookstores. Bristol board works really well too and that's a bit easier to find in the states, haha! Most art supply stores will carry it, but it's slightly expensive. @__@

Copic markers are hard to find I think everywhere outside of Japan (and anime conventions in the states) and most people I know get them that way or through online ordering. Here is the official Copic marker website: [link] and you can order from them too, but it is very expensive. ><;;

Hope this helps!

what kind of pen is the white pen? i've been using the milky pens but they look really tacky... @__@

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

finni In reply to mOOg267 [2006-10-17 07:02:19 +0000 UTC]

Actually my pen is pretty much the exact same thing as the milky pen. I used to use milkies until I lost my pen bag LOL so just make sure you move the pen slowly so that a lot of ink comes out to get a nice opaque feel. Or you can use white out if you'd like - that's a lot thicker consistency of white.

Do these techniques work more or less in the same manner with prismacolor markers? cuz im cheap and cant afford copics
great tutorial by the way

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

finni In reply to RizRat [2006-10-15 21:42:17 +0000 UTC]

Prismacolor markers are really difficult to smear around. While they make really nice, bold colors with smooth areas of color, a lot of the technique I explained here relies on the Copic marker's "Super Brush", where the tip is soft and flexible like a real brush. You can try it with Prismacolors but I own both types of markers, and only use Prismacolors when I want to fill in a large area with a consistent shade of color.

Sorry that doesn't help much, but you can definately try! Just make sure you are really loose in your technique and to work quickly, barely letting the marker touch the paper. I know Copics are expensive! ><;;

RizRat In reply to finni [2006-11-22 16:08:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, i've found a few ways to make them work, but not quite in the same way, and it was your tutorial which really got me expiramenting! so thank you!! And isn't better sometimes to find your own of doing things?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

finni In reply to RizRat [2006-11-22 18:32:55 +0000 UTC]

Yaaay I'm glad!! I agree, it's always best to find your own way of doing things, because that way you understand the method and everything that goes with it better than anyone, and you'll probably be most comfortable doing it.

I'm glad my tutorial could be of help in some way!

i have a question for you finni! if i were do have a pencil drawing and ink over it then erase the pencil would it still smear? line arts are my least favorite to do T-T *cries*.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

finni In reply to shiroi-tsubasa89 [2006-10-10 01:25:08 +0000 UTC]

If you let the ink dry before you erase (if you're not sure, wait like 15-30 minutes before erasing) then all should be good. It's also good to draw lightly with the pencil so you don't have to press too hard when erasing, because sometimes the eraser will pick up some of the inks too. When this happens you should ink a second time hahaha so your lines stay solid.

Hope this helps!

wow, that's pretty helpful. I never knew about the colorless blender thing. What is it exactly?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

finni In reply to TheLunarCry [2006-09-28 22:03:12 +0000 UTC]

It's basically a marker without color in it.... like when you use watercolors, it's like using the brush without any color, and only water. The colorless blender is sold wherever you can find Copic markers. XD

How long did it take you to color the drawing? I'm guessing it didn't take that long since you were rushing to keep the paper wet.

My brother's learning about this stuff; He may want to look at this.

btw, you should save your jpeg's at lower compression (less compression = more quality). There are some little artifacts and what not
