I really liked the end result. I can get most of the background tutorial, but I'll see what I can get with your method.

So this is how you do highlights and reflections huh. I might try ambient lighting and stuff to improve my art a little.

This is a very helpful tutorial. Thank for taking the time to put it together. I'm really impressed that you shared the less-than ideal starting points with us. It's a lot harder to teach people to see than it is to demonstrate a technique, so I appreciate the examples of what didn't work and why. It was an: "Ohhh, I see! The new way is much nicer." learning experience when I read through this. And of course the piece itself is lovely.

Thanks very much
I thought it would be a good idea to put that in there since I'd made those mistakes. It seemed good to share them so people know what I did wrong and hopefully how to see when it's wrong

Wow, I like how you dont really ink the lines but sort of let the colour do that on most parts. God that would save me a hell of a lot of time, I'll have to give this a shot! (I'm currently experimenting with a combination of vector and cel shading stuff. We'll see how it turns out)

Hehe, this is one of a few ways I colour. Most of the time it's like "right, I've no idea what I'm doing so lemme just throw something at it until it works"

man, I'd never be able to work that hard on a picture. Too lazy.
about a 1/3 of the way through, I'd be like, "Aw, screw this; mah brain hurts. Time to watch TV", or something like that. The life of a procrastinator
But I must give you brownie points for really going in there and adding all that little stuff. I was amazed at your commitment to put all those tiny details into the picture like far-off mountains or the fading sea or even the reflection from the lolly on Leilani's nose~~! (which was still perfect, by the way)
I gotta give you a round of applause for 'ya I never knew so much work went into a single piece of artwork.
Keep up the hard work

Thanks very much
I've got a bit of a "bad habit" of looking for all these tiny little details I could try and get in there. Means it takes me ages to finish anything, but i think it adds to any piece, you know?
I take breaks of course, there's no way I could sit there from start to finish! I'd do what you'd do; say screw this and go watch TV for a bit

funkyalien In reply to Crystal-for-ever [2006-07-16 18:59:42 +0000 UTC]
Probably DA, but I did have to compress this one a lot to keep the filesize down.
Yes, 1.8 megs is a low filesize in this case

i don't know, evening art work that is less then that is giving me these effects to them. some with jpg effect and some with lines going across them.

funkyalien In reply to Crystal-for-ever [2006-07-16 19:17:37 +0000 UTC]
I think the line thing only happens with PNGs. That's probably because of what setting they used to save it.
I dunno, stuff seems okay on my screen. But then again, nothing shows up right on this screen...
