Description
Rocko the Gnoll, thinking about something. I'm not sure what it is.Trying out new techinques and materials. A recent addition to my palette for acrylics is Chrome Tin Oxide (PBr24), which resembles Yellow Ochre (PY43) without the green undertone. It's very good in mixtures and very opaque. PBr24 is offered by two commercial manufacturers in Acrylics: Talens Rembrandt and Winsor & Newton Finity.
Acrylics on Crescent 310 Cold Press Illustration Board.

Have you played with buff titanium dark?

PW6.2? Not yet. I think Golden is the only manufacturer that makes it in single-pigment formulation.

You might want to look into Van Gogh. They carry the titanium buff light and deep as well as a warm grey. It doesn't do well if exposed to bad conditions while in transit, cuddling worse than cottage cheese. I realize the Van Gogh line is more the student grade of Talens but I have yet to locate it in oil. It creates a nice and hardy base coat.

I'm pretty certain both of those are convenience mixtures. I don't like convenience mixtures because it's harder to account for each pigment in the mixture when working wet-into-wet, which I did in this piece.
Regardless, thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate you taking the time to make it to me.

Yeah you have a point. Given the formula for buff titanium light is PW6/PY42 and the deep version is PW6/PR101/PBk11. The warm grey is PB6/PBk11/PR101.
Good stuff though.

I'm not so hot with acrylics, I don't like em that much, but you seem to do fine.

If it's a Gnoll I think it's safe to assume that he's not thinking about much.

ya know, I'm not sure how you are with story writing, but with the style of work you've been showing I see a great childrens book in your future...
keep up the good work

Yeah, people have been saying that about my work, that it reminds them of childrens' book illustration. I do a little bit of creative writing, in fact. Maybe it's something for me to pursue more seriously.

well the surest way to fail is to never try
besides, with the characters you have already developed you have the makings for an entire series of books

Thanks for the vote of confidence.
It's something I'd really like to try one of these days, maybe when I'm not so busy with school. Perhaps the summer would be a good time to start it.

I really like how people, including yousrself, can keep pieces looking cartoony while using traditional mediums. I really like the eyes. They're the first thing I saw, and they set the mood for the pic. I also like the colorwork on the fur a lot.

With acrylics it's all about layering. You can't just work wet-into-wet all day like in oils.

yeah... that's what drives me crazy. it'd take me YEARS to finish an acrylic painting...
i think i might try oils... sounds really hardcore.

WOW!
Subtle, understated, elegaic, beautiful.
Gives me to hankering to ditch Photoshop for a while and go back to good old fashioned paints... if only they weren't so damned messy!
