Description
Finally finished! I tried a lot of new things for this one. For starters, most of the lines were inked in with a brush instead of a quill pen. It kept things smooth and really let the undertone of the colored inks show through. Also I tried to get over my fear of saturated cool colors, something my watercolor professor heckled me about for the better part of two semesters while I was taking his classes.I have fallen in love with Brown Ochre (PY43, sold as "Goethite Brown Ochre" by Daniel Smith). It's semi-opaque and glazes beautifully over just about anything with a soft wet brush over a dry layer of paint. I wonder why I didn't try using it in flesh tones before.
Watercolor, ink, casein on Twinrocker 200 lb. CP watercolor paper.

Wow, I really like this! I haven't been to your gallery in a bit, but I definitely think you have improved. I feel like there's depth to the image and the perspective looks well done. The color is more defined, and I do get a sense of texture - the wings 'feel' softer than his armor, for example.

It does show! The strong blue here makes the character stand out more and brings the ocean around him to life. Great job.

Thank you!
Yeah, I've really been working on how I apply the paint to the paper, and I guess it shows!

Good strong, heroic pose. Good job with the perspective on the weapon too.

Very nice work - the edges of the waves do seem a little on the hard side of thing but the colours really bring this picture to life.
Great work!

I tried to avoid the mistake I made with the last "sea-gryphon" pic I did, making the waves into amorphous blob-like shapes that didn't really read as waves.

Finished product! Excellent! :3 I love the major browns and blues in the image. Nice mix, but the purpley sky is top bananas here! haha XD And like I said before, I need 3D glasses for this punk, it's in mah face! Good work. Hard work paying off, I'd say.

Man, you're awesome. One of the things I like the most about your style is that it's unique. Those lines, those watercolor textures are only yours... and they're truly good.
