Thank you very much for posting this. You've opened up some insights into what you do, and I think I've learned a few things.

The build-up of wax... I guess that's what's wrong with one of my pieces (which isn't up on DA) from a couple years ago.

...I learned something new today.

WoW! I've been waiting forever for a tutorial like this from you!! ^_^ I've always had such a hard time with watercolor, ad seeing as I don't have prisma-colors I have an even more difficult time creating pieces that scan properly onto my computer. I know I'm going to need to invest in some soon though. Thanks so much Golden! I just ADORE your works!!

Thanks for this amazing tutorial! You never get to see stuff like this; step-by-step. It's extremely helpful, I'll want to try it out. I use Prismacolors an dthe colorless blender kind of frequently, though I've not used paints - soI'll need to work with those, first

Thanks again!!

This was a great tutorial! It's very encouraging and makes me want to do a furry next, now that I know a little more about colouring realistic fur x].

I use prismacolors too, and I used to find the build up of layers terribly annoying, too ;_; Never, EVER use a lyra blender over a picture after you've done. It's way too waxy and disallows any more colouring of pencils over the piece. Not that you need tips ;_; *glomp*

great tutorial.. everything was well explained.. nice layout, easy on the eyes...very informative and easy to follow..
my only critique isn't on the tutorial at all, but the finished piece..
the clouds around the muzzle seem to be really shaped /around/ the muzzle.. like the wolf is pushing through the sky and offsetting the clouds, instead of being in front of it, and the clouds far far away in the background. am i making any sense?

i've loved your work for a long time, and this peice is no exception; I think sometimes we stare at our art so long we miss stuff like that

Great tutorial! I'll definitely use it sometime. I had started a wolf piece and ended up getting discouraged and not finishing it because I had used yellow and tan shades, rather than blue shades to create shadows on a white wolf and it come out looking gold rather than white... may upload pic sometime.. or try to finish, idk, lol.

You are officially my favorite deviant art artist. Not only is your work amazingly beautiful, but you are willing to share what you've learned with other artists, which I consider a very rare trait. Keep on creating! You make the world a little more beautiful each time you do.

Thank you for making an updated tutorial! I remember the one you did around 2003 ish that was put together with flash, and have been hoping to see a new one for some time. It's definitely appreciated, to say the very least.

I've got one quick questions, which I'm hoping I haven't missed when reading what you've written.
---On the first part of the tutorial, between the base sketch and the initial lay down of watercolor, did you partially remove some of the pencil sketch before starting? It seems much lighter than the original one, but I'm not sure if that's just because of the picture.

Again, thank you very much for creating this. I've learned a ton from it and hope to be able to put it into use.

**Bleh, I forgot. I actually had a second question too, but didn't remember it just then.

What is your deciding factor between using warm or cool grays? Or do you generally use warm out of habit?

Thank you again!

It's kind of incredible to see the process and evolution of how you make a piece... I'm amazed at the simplicity of the approach! There's of course a great deal of talent and technique involved in pulling it off properly, but it's not at all daunting. You make a mean tutorial!
