This is going to be a fantastic tutorial series! Even though I use cold porcelain, it's good to know if I ever decide to switch!

Oh wow, is that what you use? Some of your works resemble polymer clay too! What's cold porcelain like as a medium? Is it easy to work with? :3

Really? Haha, thanks! My cold porcelain is homemade and it's relatively easy to use. It's reeeally soft, which has its pros and cons. The hardest part for me is to make the cold porcelain right! >.< I've never used polymer clay before so I can't really compare them XD

I've recently started making charms because I see how awesome you do them and it makes me want to be able to do them too. I bought a package of original sculpey because it was all I could find. D: But now I've found painting them is terrible and I don't like it. I need to get a better paintbrush... I can't wait for 5 and 6. XD Thanks for this great guide. Can't wait for the other parts.

Original Sculpey is good to paint if you're using a very thin paint, like the cheap kind that comes in the bottles for like $0.50 a bottle. xD

Oh, I see. It's good that I bought some of that cheap paint then! XDD but probably not using cheap brushes either. D: You can see all my brush strokes and it's terrible. I tried making a sea salt ice cream and I think it's sad. I know I'd be sad if I looked like that.

Are you using smooth nylon brushes, or more coarse ones? O: Also are the brushes fine tipped or square tipped?

KawaiiStarFruit In reply to GrandmaThunderpants [2011-08-13 21:15:31 +0000 UTC]

I think they're both coarse and one is square and one is fine. Should I use nylon?

You should use a soft nylon brush, it can be any tip but I use fine-tipped ones just because I got a pack of them for really cheap, ahaha. But yeah, definitely soft nylon. :3

Got myself a set of small nylon brushes. Thanks for the advice! I used them on a tiny charm and it looks great.

I can't wait for the fifth and seventh parts! I usually never paint my charms because the paint turns out lumpy, and it takes me twenty minutes to ever get any decent pictures ; A ;

GrandmaThunderpants In reply to PeanutButterOtter [2011-08-13 18:29:59 +0000 UTC]

There is a special kind of paint you have to use... and it's very cheap and thin. xD So it works out great on polymer clay. When I use good quality paint on polymer clay, it comes out very streaky and weird. So I will go over that for sure!
