Here is a tutorial of how I made my custom weighted companion cubes. Feel free to make your own but please take pictures and show me your results!Weighted companion cube and aperture science were created by Valve for their game Portal. ^_^

Alternatively, is it possible just to draw the cutter shapes onto a piece of paper and then use that as a template for the foam? The whole cookie manipulation process just seems a bit tedious. haha!

Either way would work, I used the cookie cutter option to make them as uniform as possible, but if you can trace the paper accurately repeatedly, then that should work too

Probably. My method uses measurements based on the thickness of the funfoam though, so you'll probably have to make things smaller to compensate

How do you cut such a clean edge? I tried and it keep making rough edges

Just remember not to accidentally trip while holding your cube as it may fly through the air and inadvertently stab someone in the face, or fall down an incinerator tube and that would be very tragic.

I made some by painting cardboard boxes... My friend and I were going to sell them at the Portal 2 midnight release but our local gamestop didn't HAVE a Portal 2 mignight release...

Instead of making tin templatey things could we make paper or card templates and cut around those for the shapes as Im skint but would love to make one of these for my boyfriend (he's a portal maniac) x

It was the only way I could think of to cut 24 of each corner piece and 16 of the middle pieces consistently.
