Description Yeah, that works. I bought a Firestrike to see if I liked the new N-Strike Elite, and they're great. This thing fires pretty damn far and fast compared to the older Nite Finder. It's going to be a fun gun to paint and mod.

So the more I stared at it on my desk, the more I was convinced that I could turn it into an M5, or the Mass Effect 3 N7 equivalent. I like the black/white/grey combo of the M5 and I think it turned out pretty good here.

The original M5 artwork shows it all banged up and dirty, and I wanted to really scuff this one up and add some wear and grime. Kind of hard to do on black/white/grey, when you're adding silver overtop of it and then hitting it with a flat clearcoat. :/

I usually sand the name off of the nerf guns, what do you use to make sure the paint touches the labels?

For this, I used water slide decal paper.

Michaels or Hobby Lobby sell it with the rest of the Testors stuff.

Even if I wasn't a raging Mass Effect fan, and the Phalanx wasn't my favorite pistol, THIS would still be the coolest Nerf Mod ever.

I've got plans to make more, fancier Mass Effect Nerf guns. :3

Shocking how one extra piece and a killer paint job can completely change the look of a base. I know this is something of a proto for yeh; I'm sure that the final will be even more impressive. Keep it up!

Yeah, this one, and the steampunk Nite Finder I just did really surprised me with how much one or two pieces and some paint can totally redesign the gun.

The silver/white is something i haven't got around to trying yet. Thinking maybe do the wear with gun metal, then brush up with silver/aluminium to make it more visible?

Either that, or a flat grey primer color and then silver. ANYTHING on white just looks like dirty/smear on white. I think you need harder, more defining edges with something like this, as opposed to something like a gold drybrush over a textured black surface. Fuck if I know, I just work here.

Pretty close, pretty awesome!

Yeah it's not bad considering it's just a Firestrike with one extra piece on it. I think it looks pretty damn close to the original, albeit a smaller version. There's plenty of things I can improve on for the next one though.

Would love to see you go even further, and try to make it as close as you can in Nerf form

Yeah, me too. As soon as I get the grip guard piece figured out, I'll make a better resin cast one, and fill in the gap over the battery cover. And then we need to make an N7 version!

Yup! Looking forwards to this!

OHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHH

It turned out GREAT! Fantastic job on the guard, just looks like part of the original blaster. Working with white always sucks, so when white blasters look grotty it just makes your job easier really lol.

Sweet!

Thanks! Next one I do, I'm going to adjust the guard a bit, and put a piece of MDF on the bottom of the grip so it's flush with the rest of the guard. It's not really to M5 scale, but it's an adorable smaller version.

Yeah I did think that, but didn't want to take away from its overall awesome. I'm sure it will be epic, you could make it so it's flush, cast them and sell them

That's the first thing Jen said too: "resin cast that grip guard so you don't have to keep making them". This was just the prototype, so I'll probably sell it cheap on Ebay to cover the R&D costs, and then charge more for the next one.
