Description Well here is King Ghidorah, it is quite a reworking of the Ghidorah concept, if not the physical form – I hope you like it.

Also, Please let me know how the colors turn out. It looks different on each computer I view it on and depending on what program I am viewing with!

Origin:
King Ghidorah is one of the original Millennians that entered this universe during the Big Bang. Thus, it could be claimed that Ghidorah is older than time itself. It has been speculated that Ghidorah and the other Millennians may have caused the Big Bang (and thus the creation of the universe) when they crossed over from their native universe to this one through a white hole.

At the beginning of time Ghidorah and the other Millennians fought for control of the new universe. Their wars raged for billions of years, resulting in the formation and destruction of planets, stars and galaxies. Eventually alliances formed and a truce, if not actual peace, was established among the remaining Millennians.

Ghidorah is the greatest among the Millennians and its plans, schemes and desires are completely foreign to mortals. It has never met its equal and what it cannot sense directly it observes through one of its thousands of avatars, artifacts or talismans throughout the Universe. It, or one of its avatars, occasionally appears to advanced civilizations throughout the universe and may converse, observe, advise, guide or destroy the mortals for reasons know only to it.

It is worshiped and feared in many parts of the universe where its existence is known. It has even been known to provide certain civilizations powerful “gifts” in the form of various artifacts or talismans. Though powerful, they are truly just another vehicle for Ghidorah to influence and manipulate the universe and its inhabitants. Its avatars take many shapes, but normally some form of multi-headed dragon or serpent. Its power appears infinite and it is believed that it is the only surviving Millennian with the ability to create a white hole.

Some 65 million years ago it witnessed a massive battle at the edge of the Milkyway galaxy. Mothra’s involvement proved that something of interest was happening on the 3rd planet of the star system in question. Though Ghidorah spends most of its time traveling throughout the universe creating and destroying as it sees fit, it routinely sends one of its avatars to the 3rd planet to investigate its evolution.

Attacks:
Teeth, claws, high speed winds, horns, tail clubs/spikes, gravity lightning, ultra-gravity lighting, anti-matter bombs, various particle and energy attacks

Defenses:
Extremely strong hide/armor, instantaneous regeneration, energy shield, gravity shield, electromagnetic shield

Weaknesses:
No known weaknesses

Special Abilities:
Flight, teleportation, can move at light speed, extreme telepathic perception (across galaxies), telekinesis, vast knowledge of the universe, avatar, artifact and talisman creation, can create a white hole

Next: Gojira-phase II (a.k.a. Super-Godzilla)

Well, except for the one Gigamoth (basically father of Mothra and Battra [thought up by G-Samurai, I think]) Killed. But I need to know; how does godzilla compare to him?

Wow, yet again you hit it out of the park, great redesign on ghidorah. Im glad you thinned him out abit and changed the wings. Very nice design as always.

Thank you very much. I wanted KG to be a very agile fighter, thus it needed to be a little more streamlined. I'm glad you liked it.

Sweet mother mercy...three artists, three heads, one diabolical cosmic meme. Who's up for a pre-apocalyptic looting spree? It's not like we'll have much time to split the swag.

That noted, I must agree with Scatha: this incarnation of the Golden Devourer takes the cake. Don't get me wrong...G-Samurai's wasp-waisted, armor-plated, stylized rendition is quite slick in its own right, but this one's muscular proportions, original wing design (nice work on the fingers) & intricate scale/horn detail put it over the top in my book.

Regarding Ghidorah's origin & motivations...they certainly beat the Heisei series' deranged Futurian Bio-Pet Fusion of Doom(C). For some reason, I like the idea of this series' penultimate 'villain' being more enigmatic than a simple alien pawn or evil-for-the-sake-of-evil demon.

I'd love to know more about how some of those energy weapons work (especially the anti-matter bombs...), and have one bizarre suggestion: a sort of 'triple-beam' attack wherein Ghidorah's rays interlock, then spiral around one another, forming a conical 'vortex' of fluctuating gravitic force interlaced with zig-zagging bolts, simultaneously pinning, crushing & shredding an unfortunate target (and most of the vicinity). If that sounds too insanely involved, never mind.

Most of those defensive/special abilities make sense to me, though I wonder about the appearance of Ghido's shield(s). Do they manifest as a protective dome, or conform to his shape?

At any rate, thanks for sharing this piece with us-it was worth the wait and then some.

Thanks again for the comments.

I always liked Ghidorah the 3-headed Monster because Ghidorah awasn't anyone's tool - it was just a Badass alien monster looking to cause destruction! These of the movies devauled KG in my eyes.

Unfortunately the energy weapons aren't entirely thought out. But I have thought about it some:

If you look at the head detail you will notice a energy output for one bolt and another for 3 bolts. The 3 bolt attack is more than 10 times more powerful. This is supposed to be a fusion of the 3 independent bolts into one super-bolt kida like the main cannon one the Death Star.

The gravity bombs (in my current thinking) are something like a tiny black hole - but they are so brief that they don't "suck" anything in, it just essentially disintegrates (crush) anything they come into contact with. How they manifest themselves I am not sure. To be honest I stole the idea from some Anime that I saw. THough they didn't call them anything or explain anything in the movie.

Any other energy or particle attackes I haven't given to much thought. I really like what you describe as some type of uber gravity bomb - a combination of the gravity bomb and the 3 bolt gravit lightning!

I am not completely sure about the shields either. They are definitely not typically visible. They are there but only reaaly seen when under stress from an energy attack. I kinda like the idea of a two level shield. One an invisible protective sphere that tries to dissipate or deflect the energy attack and then a backup close to the body (like a second skin) that tires to absorb the attack or somehow prevent the energy from blasting through. I have even thought of some of the kaiju as having a type of "charged" skin/scales. Where the shield is really part of the physical skin/scales or armor. What do you think"

Thanks as always for the comments. Have a good weekend!

Hey, I never heard why you hated the bio - what's up? It is not helpful to tell me it is awful if you don't explain how! Of course, maybe you have no interest in being helpful.

the thing i disliked about your bio is in my eyes is Ghidorah never seems to be very smart and doesn't give a hoot about any other being he is to me, just a giant energy vampire, he lands sucks the energy out of a world then flies away to the next . but i like your art and you made hime quite vicious looking

hypergojira In reply to kaijulord21 [2008-04-29 15:15:56 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the reply. Well, based on the movies Ghidorah is really mostly a tool for more intelligent aliens to control. Though its original origin was very similar to what you describe.

However, my bios are very loosely based on the movies. I am using the Toho designs and movies as a starting point for my own kaijuverse. In my Godzilla Resurrection kaijuverse I am trying to provide a range of kaiju from big monsters all the way to celestial gods. Since, King Ghidorah has always been the big baddie on the Godzilla scene - I choose KG to be the big baddie in mine (plus it is my favorite Godzilla nemesis). Thus, KG had to be of the celestial god variety. I am sorry you don’t like it, everyone is entitled to their point of view, but I do think the bio fits with my universe pretty well.

Thank you again for the reply.

Thanks for the comments. Could expand upon what you think is awful about the origin. Is it the poor writting (couldn't agree more there), the reinvention of the Toho timeline, the dubious physics, what? I always like to get the opinion of another kaiju fan. Thanks again.

thank you, i'm glad you like it, and thank you for the faves as well. Gojira phase2, aka Super-Godzilla, (god what a cheesy title I gave it) is more of redesign of godzilla than Gojira phase1, but the drawing won't be as detailed as Ghidorah.

Hmm, two badarse renditions/revamps of Ghidorah within a week of each other. Is this the sign of the coming of the King of Terror?

I like the Cthulhu mythos-ish backstory. Making Ghidorah an old one-ish beastie both harkens back to his original origin in Ghidorah the 3 Headed Monster (which, in my mind, is pretty much his best moment in movies EVER) and amplifies it. It also convieniently explains A. why an alien would look like a freaking dragon and B. the several different versions of Ghidorah, if you chose to include them.

The design works incredibly well. I'm normally not fond of giving Ghidorah hands (three heads that shoot gravity rays - weapons that sound pretty dangerous, considering the horrifying stuff gravity can do in the cosmic sense - seems good enough for me), you managed to make them look good and, more importantly, didn't lose what makes Ghidorah, well, Ghidorah in the process. I've already gushed over your head design (the nebula eyes are rad), and the proportions of his body perfectly convey the sense of grandeur, dignity, and power that Ghidorah should exude. Plus tail clubs.

Wonderfully done. I tip my many hats to you.

Actually the third Zillamaster did one as well: [link] Clearly the end is near! Actually i was trying to get mine finished before Matt posted his (i didn't want to be unduly influenced), but didn't quite make it.

I'm always in favor of the elder god approach to kaiju, but I also wanted a way to explain the different versions of Ghidorah as well.

Ghidorah with hands was got me started this redesign. I had this image of Ghidorah picking up Godzilla and smashing him to the ground. This is the result of that thought.

Thank you for all of the wonderfull comments and praise.

Scatha-the-Worm In reply to ??? [2008-03-27 20:42:05 +0000 UTC]

It looks Magnificent! And yes, it deserves that capitol "M." It's an incredible piece, awesome from the wonderful heads, down to the very smallest scale on his tail.

The belly scales are really terrific, I love how you did them. The wings are impressive, both in span and pose. The heads are wicked looking, the eyes expecially, and I like that the middle one is slightly bigger than the other two. And the detail shot of the head is just...wow. The color is beautiful, too, a dark gold.

Now that I'm done gushing on you, I'd have to say I love your Ghidorah just as much, no more, than GSamurai's. Really, really awesome.

Well thank you very much. I am very proud of this one, but I thought I was going to go insane drwaing all of those scales! Of course I notice a mistake about 10 minutes after I posted it! Oh well.

I am glad the color looks good. I have very little confidence that what i see on my computer is what other people are seeing.

I am also glad that you caught that the middle head is slightly larger - I was afraid I had made it a little to subtle.

Thanks again!
