Description
UPD2: Guys, I really am chuffed that so many people found this tutorial helpful. It came as a total surprise when DA gave me a Daily Deviation for it, and that it has accumulated 55K views. I am surprised and honoured. However, I think that this tut is now terribly outdated. Hardly anyone uses ImageReady anymore. In this day and age, you can make an animated GIF directly in CS5, online - even in Powerpoint, whatever rocks your boat. If I had time, I could make a CS5 stamp tutorial or something - however, there are some awesome tutorials for that already, so why reinvent the wheel?
I haven't got time to reply to all the comments I get for this deviation, or respond to all the faves - so comments are disabled for now, sorry!
Last but not the least: this tutorial is far from perfect. I don't make stamps anymore. I am a published manga artist, I draw manga and illustrations and do workshops (and have been doing so since 2004, would you believe!). I really am somewhat disappointed that this tutorial got noticed and recognised more than any work that I put my heart and soul into.
So thank you for your interest - and please check out other art in my DA gallery, or on my website www.irinarichards.com.
Thanks! Peace and love all around ^^

Yes! We're in the same boat here - I have CS5 now ^^
1. You create a document with each of your images on a separate layer. (e.g. 4 images=4 layers).
2. Window=>Animation. Then at the bottom of your screen you'll see the Animation menu.
3. It may look like a timeline, or it may look like frames (just like in Image Ready). If you like it to look like frames, then in the bottom right corner there's a button that switches between timeline view and frames view. I personally prefer the menu to look like frames ^^
4. Set the time for each frame, just like in the tutorial ^^
5. File=> Save for Web and Devices. There, in the bottom right corner, there's an Animation option. You tick it. Save as .gif.
Hope it helps!

It took me awhile to get it, but I think I did...

That's what I got.
Now I gotta find a way to make the image fade in & out.

Yay! Looks good ^^
For fading in and out, you change the image's opacity (say, in 5 layers - 1st layer plain black, 2nd layer your image at 50% opacity, 3rd layer your image at 100% opacity, 4th layer your image at 50% opacity again, 5th layer plain black again). This way your image will fade in from black and out into black.

you could just make a comment for CS5s built-in animation window in the tutorial.

Awesome, but something that hits me like a freight train at 60 mph is that many people use newer versions of Photoshop that don't have ImageReady attached I remember the days of ImageReady, and luckily the new versions of Photoshop which have animation capability included require the virtually the same steps to create an animation as IR. It's just too bad this was DD'd in 2010 instead of 2007

I agree with you totally! I made this tut 3 years ago, and the DD came very unexpectedly. But maybe it is so, maybe lots of people still use ImageReady - I'm not sure!

Great tutorial, but since I have CS5, I can't do this, there is no Image Ready. I am in the process of figuring out how to work around this since I've only had CS5 for a week and haven't really had the chance to play with it too much.

I'm upgrading to CS5 shortly, too. I think an in-built animation function should be there.

In the Photoshop CS there is no Image Ready. In that case to show Animation window you should check "Animation" option in "Window" menu.
