Description Edit: Part II (digital inking) now available!: [link]
Also, eyes tutorial: [link]

Starring Cloud from Advent Children! (see... told you I was in a bizarre ffvii mood)

Yes, I know that sometimes sketches are Never So Clean as they are in this case... I'll talk about digital inking sometime in the near future in another tutorial. But this is for those who sketch cleanly or who go back and clean up their pencil sketch by erasing and redrawing the lines.

Feedback appreciated! (was it clear? more/less detail? What other stuff would you like to see?)

I don't have Photoshop or anything too incredibly fancy (I have Macromedia Fireworks), but I believe I could pull this off too! I'd have to tweak some stuff, but I could make it work! It was simple and easy to understand. It was even right to the point.

Thank you so much. I think you just saved me a bunch of time. ^_^

Now, CS2 is a good one^^, costs €99,95 here (about $90,-- i think)

It is a very good programn, the best as far i know^^.
You could also be cheap and try too get a free one..
But you should better buy one^^.

I just managed to get Adobe CS3 Master Collection and wanted to start learning how to use it.
I actually understood it so, its so well done that even a person with low IQ could understood
Anyway it was very useful to me.

Definately the best lineart tutorial I've seen. And it works! Even for the people who are too broke to afford photoshop so they had to download GIMP instead (*cough cough* meh )

I love this tutorial.. The only thing I can't understand how to do is to change the color of the lines.
when I turn off the visibility from the background color, there's just the normal, black/grey lines left.
(do you perhaps know what's wrong?)

thank you.. I have really looked for a tutorial that explains everything with layers and multiplying, etc..

fav.

Hey there - I'm here on behalf of a site called Coloring Dragons ( [link] ) that is essentially an artist's community. We're looking into setting up a tutorials section made up of hundreds of different artist's cheats and tips and would love it if we could include this one amongst them! Obviously you would still be given 100% of the credit for making it and there would be a link included with your name to any internet gallery you happen to own so that even more people can see your work in action. If this sounds good to you then get back to me and we'll sort out any questions you may have

This tutorial was the clearest and easiest to understand. I don't mean to sound all slow, but if I knew all the fancy terms, I wouldn't need a tutorial Most that I have found, jump through them so quickly, assuming I already know everything, and it ends up just confusing me. Yours gave great instruction with the pictures to show me how to work the layers. I LOVE "fuzzification", it works fantastic on anything. Pencils, inks, colored inks, etc. Thanks so much, I really appreciate the time you put into these for us!

I enjoyed your Tutorial. Granted I don't have Photoshop, but I do have something Somewhat similar, Microsoft Picture It!. Though, to clean up my lines I don't really have to do so much. Picture It! has a Dust and Scratch Removal feature that can clean up stray pen and pencil lines with a click of a button. I am sure that if Picture It! has this feature that Photoshop would have this feature too.
