Description
Oil on canvas, 120 cm X 90cm. Aprox. 100 hours.Portrait of Karen, this was going to be my entry in the trad art day contest, but I just didn't get it finished in time try as I might.
The blue took me FOREVER. ugh.
Photo a bit grainy, but you get that I guess.
Will put a WIP slideshow up at some point, wee bit tired right now.

Also to Karen for modeling, inspiration, putting up with my bitching about painting blue for 2 weeks, and feeding and watering me during the project.

So realistic... So perfect...
Blue velvet reminds me of old masters of art, like Caravaggio, yes Him indeed. Maybe it strenghten by your dark background what was also charcteristic for baroque painters. Hmm, after few seconds I come to conclusion that it's not Caravaggio, but I'm close. Let's think... Maybe it reminds me of Ingres... Yes! 
I know my comment doesn't help you in any way, but take it as me being so impressed that I can't find correct words to express my filings.

well thank you for saying so, I worked very hard on it even by my painfully slow standards.
Ingres is most certainly one of the main artists I have floating around in my head when working on oils, so I'm glad at least one person made the connection
I'm not sure I'm quite up to his standard, but I'm still only learning, so he'd better watch out!

Of course, progress is the most important thing. You have amazing talent and you are still young, what makes you better way to beat even Ingres. But, maybe you should try group paintings? That's just an idea.

This is beautiful. I love the way that, even though her back is toward the viewer, she still commands respect. The blue fabric tumbling down her back to pool at her feet is reminiscent of a waterfall.

The 100+ hours spent on this are so totally worth it, this is an incredible painting (frankly as are the rest in your gallery). I can't believe how realistic they all are, and I just love the colors you use. All around amazingness!

This painting reminds me with one of vermeer painting (i forgot the painting's title) the lady in the painting wearing the head scarf looked like the one on your pic. He used lapis lazuli for the color. Anyway good one man!

This painting is simply breathtaking!! The contrast is amazing but what makes it even more amazing is how realistic it all is! Not only does the blue velvet come to life but the model, every detail is seen. Your hard work and dedication is seen in all your work! Bravo!!
