Description
Well....dispite what you might all think.. I'm still alive and painting.I've been working on this for the last 6 weeks-ish...not that it actaully took that long, but with all the things going on in my life at the moment, it did...
Photo updated..looking a bit more like it now.
This is the second winner of my long lost comp, entry by the amazing and very striking .
It reminds me of something I can't put my finger on...maybe the spirit of winter...or like, some sort of lost fairy tale.
At anyrate I hope I have captured what I saw in the photo.
Will write more when I'm less brain dead. I do have a lot to say about it.
Make sure you message and tell her how cool she is for letting me use this image.

I used raw umber, with the odd bit of burnt umber, but hardly any, and a few touchs of white.
Put it on with a big soft brush and lots of medium (I'm using liquin at this point, but most mediums will work for this) and blocked in a small-ish area tonally( IE dark bit/light bit, using more or less paint, building up the shapes) Then went back with a tiny little brush that has died and is really stiff and crappy, and cut back into the wet paint. 1 line at a time...takes forever, but you get that.
Btw make sure you big tonal marks the brushstrokes are kinda going with the flow of the whole thing as well.. Hope that helps

Not so keen on the mouth (i think the teeth and lips are both competing for the foreground) but the hair is absolutely amazing. I agree with this being a winter piece.

Looking at the photo again you are right....will have to take it again.
The actaully painting (also looking at it again) doesn't have that problem luckly.

Very beautiful and also very poignant - such a sense of loss in those eyes. Nicely captured. And now on to the original!
Thanks so much!
