Description Based on the image of the same name-----> [link]

This is not the sort of thing I would usually do, however this image created by the high skilled [link] <---Idrils, who very generously let me use it (thank you SO much ) really spoke to me in my own language, it was exactly what I was looking for, looking back to my first major nude, Angie .[link]

I feel like I have come full circle and ready for a new phase.

I'm really very excited.

It's excellentttt. My only suggestion would be to add some yellowish tones to the skin.

Jumprabbit In reply to lifeonautopilot [2006-07-15 02:41:07 +0000 UTC]

I'm guessing its not coming up on your monitor quite right, or maybe the photo is just crappy, however when I work my main skin colour is based around transperent gold ochre, which does have a nice golden yellow tone to it.

You are exactly right however, skin needs yellow tones Thanks for leaving a constructive comment, I do appreciate you feedback
Sorry its taken so long to get back to you I've been working 7 days a week lately...clear of that now though

I love this painting. It's absolutely gorgeous, and I can't even begin to describe the way it speaks to me, though... I think it might be a little different to me, than most. This is just so amazing... I'm deffinately going to have to go through the rest of your galler.

Jumprabbit In reply to Shiraj [2006-06-20 01:09:56 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

The whole point of being an artist (in my opinion) is to make someone that speaks to people. I'm very interested in the idea you're getting a different message then most people, I allways wonder if people see my paintings the way I do...

Great comment, hope you enjoyed the rest of my gallery

Shiraj In reply to Jumprabbit [2006-06-21 02:20:37 +0000 UTC]

Welcome! And no worries! you do an absolutely wonderful job at having your paintings speak. They all seem so full of emotion and each seem to have a voice of its own.

Uhm... I'm wondering, do you do request art? and if you do... do you have the ability to make someone who starts out looking like an anime character, look real?

Jumprabbit In reply to Shiraj [2006-07-15 02:37:03 +0000 UTC]

I'm afraid I don't have that skill...I need to work from a reference or model, I'm still not upto inventing stuff that complex I'm afraid..maybe one day though, I'm still just learning, only been painting a bit over 2 years after all.

This is amazing, vivid and alive. I can't quite get over the sumptuos richness in that red, you've rre-established it as the passionate colour

Jumprabbit In reply to not-sleeping [2006-06-18 21:44:15 +0000 UTC]

Thank you The red in the original is actaully better again, first time I'd ever used cadmium red. Was a bit of a challange to control it, but I can totally understand why it costs $50 a tube now

I can imagine how gorgeous it is live. The impact in two dimensional space is pretty vivid, I'd probably be staring for hours if it were in person

I sent to of to get scanned by my publishing people, so I hadn't seen it for 2 weeks. Just got it back. It's really better then I remembered compared to the photos of it, so I guess thats good.
Now I have to start my brush moving and try to match it (had 3 weeks working 7 days performing, haven't painted anything at all. eek)

I was right You done good.
Seriously, I can't get over your reds. I've never seen anything quite so rich :

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jumprabbit In reply to not-sleeping [2006-07-26 06:04:45 +0000 UTC]

the trick is that there's hardly any pure red at all, I mix it with raw and/or burnt umber, letting only a bit show through here and there, makes it look redder for some reason

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

not-sleeping In reply to Jumprabbit [2006-07-26 20:40:18 +0000 UTC]

Interesting I can see how browns might enhance underlying richness.. I'll have to give it a shot ^_^

not-sleeping In reply to Jumprabbit [2006-09-04 01:29:50 +0000 UTC]

You'll just eventually turn to neon pallettes and strong geometrical shapes after nailing the representative aspect
Seriously though, figures are endlessly interesting for me too ^_^ Faces, especially.. there's such a possibility for range and expression.

Jumprabbit In reply to not-sleeping [2006-11-14 01:37:44 +0000 UTC]

well yeah I think I could paint jsut faces for the rest of my life without ever going over the same ground twice.
If only it wasn't so hard

Beautiful, and an inspiration. Have been browsing your gallery and am seriously impressed with your work.
I am just picking up the brush again after 20 years and previously dabbled in landscape - now experimenting with portrait. To one day capture the qualities that you have, especially as you have with your paintings of Karen, that would be wonderful.

Regards

G

Thank you for saying so, my paitnings of Karen mean a lot of me, even if they are not allways as saleable or whatever to the general public

Portraits are a pain in the butt, but I just never wanted to paint anything else, so there you go.

I got me a big soft brush and blended it all within an inch of its life, which is different to my usual method of working with my fingers for the most part, but I thought since I was mixing skin tones out of paint that has mercury in them it would be wise to go get them tooo much on my hands

spookowl In reply to Jumprabbit [2006-06-18 22:39:38 +0000 UTC]

I would say that wouldn't be a good thing to get on your hands XD I am a dry media person myself. I haven't quite learned to paint yet..maybe next semester I'll get into a painting class ^_^

Jumprabbit In reply to spookowl [2006-06-20 00:57:51 +0000 UTC]

Its totally a personal choice, I really don't think painting is any greater or more challenging the dry media's, I just happen to have put a lot of time into it, my pencil work is getting worse and worse I tell you now...
