Description
Well, I'm calling it done. Here we see it in all its glory. The changes from earlier pictures are rather slight, really. Just some adjustments on the colours, really. The bottom row is your basic turn-around, showing it off as clearly as possible. The top is a few more dramatic shots. The second one along demonstrates the ball-jointed eye and plunger, while the one after that shows the swivelling central section.
Some more technical shots to come, I think. With statistics and the like, probably.
The Daleks' creator was Terry Nation, asisted by Davros.

First off, WHY WEREN'T THEY DESIGNED LIKE THIS IN THE SERIES PROPER?!Β
Secondly, what color is your NPD Drone?Β I ask that because THIRDly, I want to try and replicate this design with the Paradigm Dalek figures, but I have no idea how I'm going to pull that off.....Β

Thanks! I've iterated the design a bit since I first posted this, as you can see elsewhere in the gallery - I don't have a record of the example colour I used, unfortunately. It's *a* grey, obviously, but I can't give you any colour values, I'm afraid. I could try and get a RGB or hexadecimal colour value from my current version of the NDP but I'm not sure how helpful that would be for physical modelling . . .
A good metallic grey or silver would probably work in actual paint, but I can't really offer any guidance on what exactly to chose.

I'm afraid I'm not going to release this one - mainly because of the hassle it would be to retrieve and convert into something usable.
I have released the Blender files for some of my 'Dalek Evolution' series of models over at the Project Dalek Forum, though, and intend to release some more of them in the future.

Just ran across this - nice work cleaning thing up, although I still loathe most aspects of the the NPD....that swivel mid-section just looks so cheap and tacky, sorry - you work is superb, however...you took and multi-colored turd and made it bearable. bravo!

Librarian-bot In reply to EVysther [2012-08-01 08:19:56 +0000 UTC]
Thank you...I think. Although as the swivel section on this model is adapted from the original New Series Dalek, rather than the NDP, I feel I should defend that a bit!
I do intend to come back to this idea and rebuild it in Blender from the ground up, so maybe I'll be able to improve it a bit more.

Don't worry - I wasn't slagging your work at all - I just loathe the NPD's to the utmost - you made something very cool out of something truly awful!

Oh, very nice! Sorry I didn't get back in time to say go for it, but since you have anyway, that doesn't matter!
I've seen people try Daleks in Spore before, but yours look particularly good - and I'm not just saying that because you've based them on my design!

That is an awesome design! Mind if I recreate this using Spore?

ProEngineer - it's a Comupter Aided Design program that I'm quite comfortable with.

Now this is what the new Daleks in "Victory of the Daleks" should have looked like - not that silly oversized hunchbacked design they actually went with. It has a real solidity and finesse that the current look lacks.

Thank you, glad you like it. Certainly, it was my intention to remove the design features that I felt broke up the traditional Dalek outline.

I'm glad to see you kept most of the 2010 styling cues that I liked in there. There's quite a few of them I liked too. XD Great work!

I use a design program called ProEngineer. It's not as versatile as 'proper' CGI programs but it lets me design and render things like this pretty well.

Oh, and I meant to say, the swivelling mid-section is great too, hope they have retained that ability onscreen (though it doesn't like like that'll be the case with those clunky big things)

Librarian-bot In reply to novmbr17 [2010-04-28 20:32:48 +0000 UTC]
The swivelling mid-section looks to be out in the new design...I can't see it working with the shoulders set up as they are - it's that ruddy great pillar up the back that seems to rule it out.
The eye mobility is something that is definitely in with the new design. I think it makes sense to have a flexible eye-stalk like that, even if it does look a trifle odd. So I included it!
