Description Finally... friggin'... finished...
For starters, this art took a LOT of me, a ton of time, a ton of work, a ton of stress, and a huge damn artblock for some time. So I would especially ask of you guys, to spare those few minutes and tell me what you think about it instead of the usual "fav & run", please.

As you might have guessed, this is my tribute picture for MegaMan's 30th anniverssary. Being a huge MegaMan fans for over 20 years now, I really wanted to make something special for the Blue Bomber this year (and luckily I just barely made it before the end XD)
The idea was simple enough, draw my favourite Robot Masters from each of the 12 classic series games (MM 1-10, plus MegaMan V and MegaMan & Bass), whom I wanted to draw as a group shot in some dynamic poses, mostly because I got inspired by 's work (seriously, if you're a MegaMan fan, go see his gallery NOW!) ...and boy was that a miscalculation...
You see, the thing that makes group shots work is proper composition and the characters need to be properly showcased... and I suck at both...
I tried several times with different kinds of sketches, but each time it was just all messed up, either got too cluttered or I ran out of space... in the end, after countless attempts over several months, it ended up being a set of 6 A4 sheets, 2 characters on each... sorry, but that's the best I could do for now. And I'm very thankful to my dear friend for combining all these once I was done.

Anyways, lets go through the characters:

ElecMan (MegaMan, 1987)
Representing the very first game is ElecMan. No surprise here, he was almost everyone's favourite XD
Cool design, hardest Robot Master of his game without exploiting his weakness, best weapon. As far as the original game goes, he was the coolest.

SnakeMan (MegaMan 3, 1990)
Next is pretty much my most favourite Robot Master of them all. While many fans choose ShadowMan as their MM3 favourite, I always loved this slithery robot. He was just so fresh and original, while most other bosses so far were made to represent some sort of element (fire, ice, electricity) or weapon (boomerangs, shields, explosives), he was the first to come with an animal motif instead, and a much more unique weapon. Plus, he looks just so damn awesome with his sly smirk, that he has not only on his stage select portrait, but his in-game sprite as well.
And to top it off, he has the coolest stage theme out of the whole series.

MetalMan (MegaMan 2,1988)
Another one that's not really a surprise. MM2 was a pretty awesome sequel, hailed by many as the best part of the series. And while it's certainly an amazing game and best starting point due to it's lesser difficulty, I don't really see it as even close to "best". Still, the sawblade throwing MetalMan was an instant fav.

TornadoMan (MegaMan 9, 2008)
After the classic Blue Bomber has been gone for 10 years, it came back to it's 8-bit look. The game was refreshingly great, with some of the best stages and gameplay the series had to offer. And while most people were hyped for the first female Robot Master, SplashWoman, I was much more taken by this guy, partially to his cool Tasmanian Devil-inspired half-whirlwind animation XD

Pluto (MegaMan V, 1994)
This guy might be he most obscure one here. Pluto comes from MegaMan V for the good ol' Gameboy, which was an odd part to say the least. For one, all other MM games for the GB had a theme of using 4 bosses from one game, and 4 from the next one, the fifth one had a completely original cast of bosses. Second, said new bosses were named after planets instead of Man. Third, MegaMan actually loses onscreen to another robot, and in the intro cutscene no less.
Despite it's obscurity however, that game is still one of the best, and definitely worth checking out (it's available on the virtual console on WiiU & 3DS).
Also, if you think Pluto is a SlashMan knockoff, he was actually the first one, since MMv predates MM7 by a year, he also has a cooler design and much cooler attacks than SlashMan.

BurnerMan (MegaMan & Bass, 1998)
Say hello to our token psycho ("Burn. Burn! BURN TO THE GROUND!!), while not as obscure as Pluto, he's not exactly well-known either. MegaMan & Bass, or more accurately RockMan & Forte, came out for the SNES as one of the last titles, and was actually released after MM8, which was a PSX title, so it's no wonder it flew under the radar and many fans didn't even know it existed. Still, that game was pretty much the best of it's era, offering great gameplay, some awesome boss designs, and a ton of collectibles for the fans.
And yes, he is a batshit insane pyromaniac, hence why I wanted to draw him in a WRYYYYYYY pose.

TomahawkMan (MegaMan 6, 1993)
MM6 as a whole, had in my opinion, the best cast of bosses. They were all so amazingly designed and had such unique abilities, it was truly a magnificent sendoff to the NES. Yet when it comes to my favourite among these great designs, it's definitely TomahawkMan (with KnightMan being a veeeeery close second), his overall design coupled with that rad axe-hand just wins it for me. Plus, his stage theme is second only to SnakeMan's.

NitroMan (MegaMan 10, 2010)
By the time we hit the 10th instalment, most themes were either overdone or a bit too quirky. Even Nitroman, as awesome as he is, was basically a redone TurboMan. Luckily, he does have a few things that help his stand out.

ClownMan (MegaMan 8, 1996)
After the lackluster cast of MM7, MM8 introduced some really amazing designs in the sequel... yet fucked it all up by giving them the worst possible English dub (worse than MMX7... maybe even worse than MMX4), because no matter how original the bosses were or how unique their fights were, you just wanted to get it over with to make those damn voices stop...
A real shame, cause it was genuinely fun seeing this guy and even more fun fighting him.

CrystalMan (MegaMan 5, 1992)
Now this guy is among my favs for a completely different reason. You see, back in the day MegaMan had a really awesome animated series, and the first episode I've seen was the one with CrystalMan, who looked really badass in it, so I really took a liking to him. Of course, that doesn't mean he's not a great boss in his own right.
Plus, MM5 is actually my favourite part.

SkullMan (MegaMan 4, 1991)
And lastly, we have out edgy duo, because every series needs it's bit of edge. First is everyone's favourite robotic skeleton, SkullMan. This Russian developed is another popular choice, partially due to a weaker cast aside form him. Seriously, even though I still love this game, I can't help but feel it was one of the lower points as far as bosses go, with this one surprisingly cool one to overshadow them all... heh, I guess Dr. Cossack was just drunk when developing these.

ShadeMan (MegaMan 7, 1995)
And last but not least, ShadeMan, similarly to his boney robotic brother, this guy stood out among his fellow bosses. It was surprising how despite the jump to 16-bit and some great gameplay during the stages, the bosses, while having some more detailed and fleshed out designs, felt poor when compared to their 8-bit predecessors (or ridiculous in SpringMan's case)... except for this one robotic vampire with an awesome design and an equally awesome weapon.

Hope you enjoyed the art.

Haha, thank you, I did my best ^^

I have done some Maverick pics, but not planning on doing a group shot like this, MMX bosses are far too detailed.

Not to mention a lot of the future X games sucked.

But yes any of them are just too detailed.

Just in case you meant that as part of those "later games" ;3

X6 was glitchy and rushed, but I still really loved that one, and I'm just kinda tired of everyone thrashing that part...

X6 was fine ;3
But my favorites from the whole series was X1 and X4

LukeTheRipper In reply to shinragod [2019-06-02 07:08:47 +0000 UTC]

My favs are X3 and X6. Not a big fan of X4, it had a good premise that got spoiled when they tried sticking Sigma in there, plus... that dubbing...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shinragod In reply to LukeTheRipper [2019-06-02 07:13:51 +0000 UTC]

Yeah granted the story got lame sticking Sigma in there and the dubbing was awful. XD

But I loved the graphics, gameplay and soundtrack in that one.

LukeTheRipper In reply to shinragod [2019-06-02 09:24:44 +0000 UTC]

The MMX story in general would benefit a lot if Sigma wasn't pushed as the next Wily...

I think it would be far better if he was the main villain in MMX1, then return in MMX2 with that upgraded body of his, MMX3 should have been about Doppler, to show that there's more evil replids out there, X4 should have been just about the Repliforce coup (which would have been much more dramatic if it wasn't started by Sigma, a well-known criminal at that point who should in no way be able to fool the Repliforce General...), but with Double still in it as a form of foreshadowing, then he should return again in X5, spreading his Sigma virus and doing all the damage he did (including seemingly killing off Zero again), but ultimately falling in the end, after that, they should keep him abset from all future games, but his presence would still be looming over the series, making people unsure when he might come back next and what sort of damage he could inflict next time.

One of the best parts of MMX: Command Mission was that he was completely absent from that one.

No arguments about graphics, gameplay and soundtrack tho XD

shinragod In reply to LukeTheRipper [2019-06-02 14:19:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah Sigma doesn't need to be physically there or crowbarred into the story; I agree. The idea of a Reploid rebellion was off to a great start since it shows a great and proud warrior like the General falling to the dark side; along with Colonel and his sister Iris. I figured those plot elements were good enough; particularly between Zero and Iris.

Too bad that one scene though. "What am I fighting foooorrrrrrrr!?" A tender almost tear-worthy scene ruined by cheesy dubbing.

Again they probably treated their X series like the original Mega Man series by having Sigma be the recurring villain just like Dr. Wily. But the X series was supposed to be more serious so yeah; it needed to change itself up more.

But yeah: I like X4 a lot primarily for the gameplay and sound/graphics.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LukeTheRipper In reply to shinragod [2019-06-02 15:26:23 +0000 UTC]

Yes, those plot elements would have been good enough, if all that wasn't kickstarted by the mighty General not recognizing a world- renown terrorist...

I mean, all the events of X4 could have been avoided if he just captured or destroyed Sigma and went "Hey humans, just got the Sigma guy that the Maverick Hunters could kill properly 3 times now, you should respect my army" XD

At least MM Zero got it right, with each part having it's own main villain, hell, Dr. Veil, the greater-scope villain, is only fought in the final game.

Holy crap man, your poor hands. That's a lot of RM art! They look really awesome. Each one could be a separate dev on its own, but it looks pretty nice seeing them showcased in one big pic. As always, nice work with the poses. Favorite would have to be Burner Man, for obvious reasons. But Snake Man here is a very close second. Nothing less for your favorite RM I guess.

Anyway, awesome work man! Nice job, especially considering you had an art block.

LukeTheRipper In reply to imbisibol [2018-02-19 00:00:51 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, they could be separate entries and all, but for a tribute pic like this, I wanted to showcase them all at once.
As always, did my best with the poses, which was a bit harder with the amount of characters present and their funky anatomy and proportions, but glad you like it nonetheless ^^

And it's not as much "artblock", but more like hitting a wall and desperately trying to break through it or claw my way over it |D
Or at least I always saw artblock as a state where you can't get yourself to draw, be it lack of motivation or trouble with getting focused on your work, while in this case, I draw a lot, I just failed multiple times, because I'm still very lacking when it comes to proper multicharacter composition.

imbisibol In reply to LukeTheRipper [2018-02-19 15:33:14 +0000 UTC]

That's exactly what I would call an artblock too. Maybe it's the lack of ideas, skill, inspiration, motivation... anything that makes me stare at white for minutes. Horrible stuff. But hey, you finished the pic. Kudos!

What I want is "feedback", not "more exposure". I am supposedly being watched by 819 people, so it wouldn't hurt if a fraction of these left a comment every now and then.
"More exposure" could potentially lead to more feedback, but on social sites such as facebook, instagram, twitter, etc., there's a far higher chance to attract idiots or artthieves get feedback.

I don't know. Β I always felt Pharaoh Man and Freeze Man were pretty cool. Β Much like Crystal Man for you, the cartoon is what made Pharaoh Man one of my all time favorite Robot Masters. Β And Freeze Man just looks the most serious looking of the MM7 bosses, at least to me anyway.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LukeTheRipper In reply to Ability-King-KK [2018-01-06 21:35:25 +0000 UTC]

To each their own, I guess. I personally found PharaohMan odd and not too interesting, he was great in the cartoon tho, I'll give him that.
As for FreezeMan, he was serious looking, and that's the problem, while the likes of CloudMan or SpringMan were too silly even for an MM game (well, maybe they'd be OK as generic enemies), the likes of FreezeMan, BurstMan or TurboMan were just too serious (and a bit bland), which made them look completely out of place in a MegaMan game. To me they just lacked that special MM spirit, balancing between cartoony and serious that made the bosses so awesome, and as far as more complex designs go, I think MM8 and MM&B did a lot better job.

But that's just my opinion, if you like them, that's great.
