So, now that the movie is out everyone has been asking when I'm going to do somethign about Transformers 2. Well, this is pretty much how I feel about it. This movie has been so universally hated, so torn apart by every critic and blog as one of the worst movies ever, I really don't think I can add anything. In fact it's almost become an art form of it's own finding as reviewers find new levels of hyperbole to insult the movie.

Though I will say that the movie's supporters generally say things like "It's not supposed to be brilliant, just turn your brain off and have fun!" Sorry but, "turn your brain off" and "have fun" are directly contradictory. I'm not going to give any movie a break and pretend I'm stupid because it has expensive special FX (not good, expensive).

Anyways, it's sort of a sad statement about entertainment when this quality of movie does so well. It's just encouraging studios to abandon plot and acting in favor of girls bending over and junk blowing up.

That was about my assessment too... which for Jazz makes a lot of sense considering his voice actor. It was fitting.

I don't get offended very easily, as I am inherently laid back...but those two came about as close to offending me as one could get without crossing the line.

I saw them more as redneck-types considering the whole "we don't do much readin'" thing, but I suppose people are much more prone to seeing things as racism.

To see it as racism in itself is racist. I didn't think of them as black stereotypes, I didn't even think of them as black. They sounded more like every white person I've ever come across on Xbox Live, LOL.

The only time I considered racism was when my sister told me people were ranting and raving about it. Then I thought, "Okay, uh, I can... sort of... see where they'd... get that idea?" But it's really just people looking for any reason to bash these movies, which everyone seems to LOVE doing.

I really don't see it. The word "mudflap" in Transformers terminology actually means something along the lines of "hick" or "redneck," which I can clearly see in the twins. You're right though, a lot of people just looking way too deeply for any example of racism. One post seriously said that the film is racist because Bay depicted Egypt as being nothing but camels, sand and pyramids. Really? Yes, really.

HAHAHA, OH WOW. That's ridiculous. So I guess any iconic view of anything ever is racist. Showing the Eiffel Tower in a shot of Paris is racist, as is showing Asian people walking around in China.

Don't forget silly accents, those are always racist! ALWAYS! But really, click [link] for more. I started ranting to myself when I got to that Egypt part, lol.

And another thing. Critics always love "Drama about poor black family living in the Bronx struggling with drugs and money #847", don't they. And that's not stereotyping or anything.

My brain broke at the first sentence. I can't believe that everything with a different-sounding voice is considered racist nowadays. Wheelie? Racist? SERIOUSLY? And Jetfire... I just... I don't even. Wow.

It's like they sat through the movie with a notebook writing down every "racist" thing they could. But somehow they misquote a bunch of things. Hmm.

REVULSIVE In reply to Nukenai [2009-06-29 06:16:53 +0000 UTC]

It's clear that these were there as comedic stereotypes, not racism. The part that gets me is at the end he says, "Either way, the evidence of racial stereotyping in the film is undeniable."
Not only do I deny it, but I don't think this guy should even be watching movies at all. You know how in the original Star Wars, they use a black man to voice Darth Vader? Racist. I mean how could they depict a black man as having a deep, bass voice?! It's unheard of! Especially when they reveal he's actually a white guy at the end! MAN THAT'S SO RACIST!

IT'S VERY OBVIOUSLY OUT TO PUT THE BLACK COMMUNITY DOWN. Christ, this people are ridiculous. And I love how Jazz was overlooked in the first one because OH HE'S SUPPOSED TO TALK LIKE THAT, BECAUSE INTERNET, SO IT'S OKAY LOL. I mean... what.

REVULSIVE In reply to Nukenai [2009-06-29 06:29:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, Jazz has always been about pop culture. Even in the G1 cartoons he used slang a lot. I'd say he was loosely in character. I mean how many people say "kick it"?

On a sidenote, we're talking a lot! WHY ARE THESE SILLY PEOPLE MAKING ME TALK SO MUCH?!

Nukenai In reply to REVULSIVE [2009-06-29 06:31:18 +0000 UTC]

I just find it funny that no one jumped all over him. I didn't find him racist or anything.

It's easy to talk rationally about things that people irrationally assault, I suppose.

While I agree with what you said in general, I choose to not pay attention to all the juvenile things that accompanied all the great lines from Optimus and Jet Fire, although they really should let Michael Bay suggest less when it comes to characters and stories.

I wanna see the movie, although I'll probably wait till comes out in the redbox and rent it for a buck. I was hoping that Bay would come up with an actual plot, but from the sound of things he managed to make things worse then the first movie. I guess I'll just stick to the fan story sites, at least most of those have a plot. (many... are not exactly 'kid' friendly.) There's a few out there that are quite good, and would make a great plot/storyline. It's too bad some of those guys didn't get a chance to do a concept for a movie, it could blow away Bay. (and make sense!)

Yeah...and the expletives were particularly extraneous. I normally don't mind swearing in movies, and there's usually places where it's natural for a character to let out a choice word (or two)...

but the sheer amount of it in this one, plus the sexual innuendo (if you could call it that...it really wasn't all that subtle) really makes me wonder how they managed to squeeze the PG-13 rating. Most of it was just completely unnecessary.

There were more big robot scenes, more fights, and that's what I'd asked for after the second movie. I just wish I'd been more specific about what NOT to include

You're not the only one who left the theater disappointed. I went in there expecting something bigger, such as leaving the Autobots and human characters in a transitioning moment after a defeat at the hands of the Decepticons. But no, the Fallen's supposed 'Revenge' was little more than 5 minutes of total screentime and a copout death at the hands on someone whom everyone expected was killed off...again.

I'm surprised the film is raking in so much dough. They came in second behind The Dark Knight in terms of 5-day earnings, coming short by a couple million. It's just a shame fans didn't get their money's worth. They really need to find better writers for the third one, since this one was very close to being a total train wreck.

Isn't that how studios have been making movies since movies started being made?
I, for one, enjoy junk blowing up. I'd prefer guys bending over though.

And.. I actually liked the movie. *is a nice contented 1%*

In the age of well written blockbuster movies like Iron Man and Dark Knight, there's no excuse for this pathetic an outing.

skorpeyon In reply to MattMoylan [2009-06-29 11:56:00 +0000 UTC]

I have a hard time understanding how you can think this is worse than the first one when the first had absolutely no character development for the Decepticons (it was just "Hay, they're bad, we kill them every time they come on screen"), the main plot point was a MacGuffin, and they ended up killing the main bad-guy by over-charging him with power. This time they bothered to explain who the 'Cons were, what the hell was going on, and even allowed them to have scenes of their own between Megs, Starscream, and The Fallen.

I can agree that there was too much juvenile humor, but you have to remember that juveniles is who this movie was targeted to. I don't think that it should've been, personally, but that's how it is. I don't think that made it a bad movie.

I thought Dark Kngiht was great although, wasn't really that much of a Batman movie really (more Joker: the movie). You could totally replace Batman with a really good cop and not change the movie much at all

I think the Joker was more or less what turned me off it, plus about halfway through I was just wishing it would END (and I really don't like Christian Bale's voice as Bats, I could barely understand him half the time). I really liked Jack Nicholson's part as Joker.. nothing against Heath Ledger, mind, but I just didn't like his characterization. He wasn't crazy, he was just... creepy weird.

Dude, I happen to agree with you. Granted I'm one of the people who appreciates special FX, this movie was overall disappointing when it came to plots and storylines. I heard from my uncle they spent $120 million making it, and I'm wondering who the *beep* they got to write the script.

Poorly written storyline, no real explination for some of the events in the movie, and I was seriously disappointed with Prime's five minute time-line from reviving to save their asses to almost straight to credits, considering he spent most of the movie dead. The only one who offered any insight to what was going on was Jetfire, and he farted a parachute.

You're right. There's not really a whole lot more insulting you could do with this movie. Summing it all up, it was good, just not great. So could've been done better. And Devastator's 'wrecking balls' I could've done without seeing. o.O;

Probably. Because of the mentioning of President Obama and Swine Flu, I'm convinced they rewrote the script to relate to current events. Couldn't they have found the time to write it better? I fear for the future of movies now.

When it's Bay directing the movie....
NOBODY has time to be writing a good script.
It just has to be fast, Fast, FAST!! And Explodey.
Someone else needs to direct and someone
else needs to write that script.
Heck, I thought Ironman & the Dark Knight
were far better done (but that's just me).

xCoSmIcCaStAwAyx In reply to Plush-Bots [2009-06-30 20:02:06 +0000 UTC]

I agree. Dark Knight was one of the best movies I've ever seen, and Ironman was better than I gave it credit for.

However, I read somewhere that the night before the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America Strike, they gave what they had of the TF:ROTF script to Bay, and he expanded it sixty pages.
HE added all the fight unnessacary fight scenes and jokes in the hopes that mother's would no longer have to worry about bringing their kids to the movies.

They practically gave a special FX director creative authority over a movie that had potential. ARGH!!!! I could start the 'Kill Michael Bay' Club, and probably have hundreds wanting to join by this point. I wanna kill this guy. Seriously.
