"Dawn of Mystic Dreams"
Software used: Vue Infinite 6, Poser 6, Photoshop CS3
"Somewhere deep in our minds lies the epicenter of where dreams are born and sometimes they stay with us for many years to come throughout our lives. Distant places and mystical characters with interesting ideas and thoughts which keep us thriving give us hope to reach a new day and to keep us driving forth to a new dawn." - MythArcana
In my endless pursuit to try to balance out my gallery, this one is definitely on the lighter side and is another complete reworking from my archives of yesteryear. It was from a magical time when everything just made sense, the planets were aligned, and all were harmonious in celebration of life. Now that I'm here at DA, we can all throw rocks at it and mock my hard work since Poser was involved. *cough* Regardless of your stance on that issue, this was a lot of work to put together and I realized something shortly after I did this scene; do not use lens flares on point lights in Vue! I think I had close to 20 point lights in here alone and I like to use those instead of spot lights to obtain more control over area lighting instead of using the atmosphere settings which will flood the scene with unwanted light and create nasty black shadows everywhere. I never use 100% shadows in Vue, either, and I find that a good balance between 60%-80% is best in most applications. I'm not sure what I will upload next time as it remains to be a mystery, but stay tuned as MOAR is coming soon!
EDIT: It has come to my attention that quite a few people are not receiving notices for my posts and that somehow I slipped out of their devwatch list! For those who have already been here through the notification system please ignore this edit. But if you didn't get one, please re-add me to your watch list if you wish to catch my work! I'm really not happy about bothering everyone about this, but this is the first step to try to notify my watchers that something is indeed wrong here. I suppose the next step is to mass Note everyone, but I'm really trying to avoid this. Thanks for your patience in this matter!

It is definitely a mystical place and very ancient and only a very select few know of its exact location! It is said that certain miracles can happen there and they are so intense and immaculate that one can only visit this place once in a lifetime!

I just love your settings and character clothes - they always look unique and have a certain style, so I always know when you've uploaded a new piece without seeing your name under the deviation in my message centre.
And you're one of the few who likes to use pink as a colour for his robes - very good for you!

My thumbs do have a unique appearance and kind of look strange cause the lights glow like fireflies. Hehe! I redid this one from a few years back and in the process I made it much brighter and took out a lot of dark contrast. I'm still not used to it, but it's not as saturated as it used to be. I might even push it a little darker cause I'm using a CRT monitor and most LCD monitors are at least 10 shades lighter. I love pinks and purples...purple is my favorite colors of all time and when it's with black I'm in heaven! Thanks for the nice comment and the visit!

Well, right when I got warmed up and now you leave! The story of my life! LOL! Things certainly started off with a bang here for me, but then slumped down to almost nothing and I have no idea what happened. I'm still trying to figure this site out really and it seems to have a life of its own. I honestly don't know about doing really well here and I think you have much more confidence than I do, but I suppose we'll see in time. Thanks so much for the comment and the visit and take care of yourself, as well! We shall see you when you return with a new bust of energy!

I have about 15 or so portraits, all are high resolution full length. I was going to post them after I upload these older ones. The only thing is with portraits (IMHO) is they are a bit boring to me. I put them in detailed settings and stuff, and they are very realistic with the realism kits and the custom materials I make, but they are just there. I had a string of fantasy pinups (no nudity) I did a couple years ago that were popular, but I felt like the typical Poseroid trying to attract the male testosterone. I know places like DAZ will pretty much only accept portraits in their monthly gallery and I just leave that to others as I'm busy with weeds, rocks, and structures.
But I can throw a couple up and see what happens I suppose! Thanks for the comment and for the visit!

I wasn't thinking about portraits per se, as in, focussing on people's faces, I just mean, a scene that's taller than it's wide I think it would be interesting to see different perspectives on your scenes, different compositions.

MythArcana In reply to joannastar [2009-05-29 10:42:38 +0000 UTC]
Oh yeah! I have a few full length ones at hand. One I really like in particular - she's a super model meets warrior meets necromancer - and reminds me of Guild Wars character a bit. All tastefully done, though. I'm too old to be doing anything too ridiculous. The only thing is that I feel I want to re-render some of them now that the cool Simple Details thing is out for V3 and V4 now. It makes me crazy fixing the armpits all the time in Photoshop and that fixes everything nicely in one click. I have a really wild portrait style one with six arms and I have to fix at least four of the armpits that way.

Six arms? D: This I want to see. I am in love with the V4 arm fixer. I can't believe how well it works!

MythArcana In reply to joannastar [2009-05-29 11:00:12 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, she's wild. Definitely my favorite...she's an updated version of this [link] All arms are posable and attached, that's not a Photoshop trick. But I really want to run her thru with SD and slip it into my PSD and it should work fine. Hopefully I didn't scale down the first one so that I have to match the new version up. The arms don't look horrible or anything, but I'm really adamant with details. If it only moves 40 pixels around then so be it.

Well, the context is completely lost posting this now on DA really, but it is what it is I guess. I have a ton of stuff like this to post yet, but I'm more interested in grittier subjects. My ultimate goal is to leave Poser behind altogether since it appears to be the mark of death on this site and even abstract shapes that make no sense fare much better. I saw a post last night that pretty much tore all Poser users a new one and realized that this just isn't the place to get any accolades for the time it takes to do this. But...I digress. Thanks for the comment and the

I am definitely one for a lot of colors! I had to tone them way down when I reworked this scene and it came out much better in the end. The older one was very muddy and blurry compared to this and looks like I'll have to update everything I've done from years back to get them up to speed. Thanks for the comment and the visit!

Yeah, a little warm and fuzzy in the mix to keep things in check I suppose. These types of scenes are much harder for me to make as opposed to demons and flames and caverns of doom. I suppose there is something Freudian about the whole thing, but I just go with the flow and see where it takes me! Thanks for the comment and the visit, most appreciated!

yeah, I suppose theres a reason you dont see fluffy bunnies and unicorns in my gallery. I'd find it so much harder to paint, since I dont identify with the subject matter at all. There's a certain amount of personal interest needed to make a good picture. I could probably paint the above subject matter, but it wouldnt have any of my heart and soul in it.

I'm still trying to feel out DA compared to other places, and as the front popular page is stuffed to the gills with cute, cuddly, and warm stuff...I figured I had a grip load of pretty stuff to upload; no problem. Well, as it were, folks see to like my demons and hellfire more. LOL! So, there goes my formula and predictability factor right out the window. Perhaps deviants are starved for it? I really don't know. These type of setting are much more difficult for me to setup and take more time is all I know. *shrugs* Back when this stuff was made, it was a different time and place with a more intimate setting and feeling. It most definitely lost all translation on the transfer over here. Thanks for the comment and the visit!
