Part 3: [link]Pattern pieces needed:

Alright, here's part 2! A note about printing the pattern: paste the picture into a Word document, and then resize it to fill the ENTIRE paper, even going over the margins.
If anything's not clear (which it probably is. I'm terrible at explaining things), feel free to ask.

Is it a lot smaller? If it's just a little bit smaller you should be fine. Otherwise cut a larger one out.

Yeah, they're are proportionate to eachother as long as you didn't do any weird resizing to them.

The printing doesn't make sense.
"paste the picture into a Word document, and then resize it to fill the ENTIRE paper, even going over the margins."
I don't understand what you mean by that.....
Do you have a specific size to make it?

All the images need to be resized to be 8 1/2 x 11 inches to be the same size as my Toothless plush. Just print them out so they take up a whole sheet of paper, because when you paste them into a Word document at first they'll be too small.

kind of a dumb question, but how do I resize the pattern pieces to fill the entire paper in Word? Cannot for the life of me figure out how to do that (it has been YEARS since I've needed to use MS Word!)

If you click on the image you just pasted into Word, little squares should appear around the edges. Pull the square in the bottom right corner towards the corner of the paper and it should work.

isn't there supposed to be 2 chin cutouts, and then you join them at the seam? I am a little confused also to the note on the chin stating "put this edge on fold" -- what fold??

Nevermind. I read a different comment, and I saw that the chin needed to be "doubled up". Lol. Silly me...

I have a question, for before I even start my plush.
I would like my eyes on MY Toothless to be embroidered.
I have a big ol' fancy machine, right? However I do not know where, or on what pieces, the eyes would be located. If it has to be across two pieces [Like on the side of the head and the top?] then they would have to be sewn together first, as it cannot embroider on a three-dimensional space. Or a closed space, for that matter.
Where would you suggest I embroider the eyes in, and on what piece[s]? Would you mind just giving me a general idea in one of those pieces? I would deeply appreciate it.

nooby-banana In reply to Wooden-Flashlight [2010-12-07 07:57:55 +0000 UTC]
Oh geez, embroidery. For embroidery, I think it'd be easier to embroider the eyes on a seperate piece of fabric, then cut them out and hand sew them to the plushie after it's stuffed. I honestly don't know what to tell you about sewing them on directly other than "somewhere near the front of and overlapping the Upper Head and Lower Head pieces".
Or maybe you could sew a mock-up head, stuff it, mark where you want the eyes and then take it apart? Then you can use that as a guide for the real head.

Wooden-Flashlight In reply to nooby-banana [2010-12-07 08:37:32 +0000 UTC]
Hmm... Alright, I think that might be a good idea, actually. I might sew them IN to the head from the inside, just because I'm a hand-sewing freak, haha!
Anyway, I'm afraid I don't have the funds to make a mock-up head, so that won't do. I'll simply take a piece of extra fabric and sew them in ^^
Also! Does one HAVE to use a machine wile doing this? I have a machine, obviously, but I'm more comfortable with hand-sewing for my own comfort. Which would you suggest? Can some of this not be done without a machine?
And one one more thing [forgive me ]!
How would one DOUBLE the size of your pattern? It created a 3 foot plush, correct? I would personally like a 5-61/2' plush, so how can I make the pattern pieces that large on a regular printer?

OK, I'm probably nuts, but I'm making a Toothless for each of my kids for Christmas. 'Cause I have so much extra time. So, dumb pattern printing question. When printing out the patterns, we want to make each linked page fit the page in Word, not each individual pattern piece? So on the pages with more than one pattern piece, like the heads and horns, I just want to expand that whole page, not each individual piece? Because I saw this after I'd already printed the patterns out. Yay, stupid me. Does this make any sense at all?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
nooby-banana In reply to mouthylabrador [2010-11-12 19:50:25 +0000 UTC]
You got it right, just expand the entire linked page to fit the paper in Word. Just go to the link, copy, paste in Word, and resize it to fit.
Good luck! I'm sure your kids will love them.

hey i started my plush tonight i've finished sewing the upper lower head parts and the head spikes, with the horn pieces do i sew them on the "neat" side so they turn inside out "under" the head? im a bit confuzzled with this part lol
this is an awesome pattern BTW ive never tried a plush this big before

nooby-banana In reply to Ulla-Andy [2010-11-11 22:17:54 +0000 UTC]
Yup, sew the horn pieces on so the "neat" sides are touching. Then when you turn them inside out they'll be "under" the head, like you said.

Grammato3 In reply to ??? [2010-11-02 13:15:54 +0000 UTC]
I am so confused about the horns; do you sew them on the right side and turn them, and horn No 2 goes on the part where you have sewed the two sides together so do you cut 4 horns and sew them together to go on Horn No. 2, and do you sew the chin all the way around or just the red line so what happens to all of the horns. So confused!!!! The little horn on the chin pattern is not the same size as the horn on the side of the head. I know I am probably making this harder than it is, but just need a little clarification if I have not thoroughly confused you!! Thanks for your help!!!

nooby-banana In reply to Grammato3 [2010-11-02 18:39:37 +0000 UTC]
Yup, the Horn 1, Horn 2 and Horn 3 pieces are to be sewn on the right side of the fabric, and then turned. And Horn 2 does go on the part where you sewed the two sides together, but I don't really get what you mean by "cut four horns". Do you mean "cut four horn 2 pieces"?
I apologize if the smallest horns are not the same size. That's an error in the pattern on my part. Is it a really big difference, or can you make it work? If it's a small difference it's not a big deal.
I hope this helped clarify things a bit!

I'm confused. How many horns does toothless have? I have 5 right now. On the diagram it has four. Did I sew it wrong?

nooby-banana In reply to xoToboe [2010-10-18 03:11:03 +0000 UTC]
You probably didn't sew the Upper and Lower head pieces all the way up. The largest horn is divided into three parts: one on the Upper Head, one on the Lower Head, and one that is sewn on later.

I sewed four of the lower heads (B) on two of the lower heads (A). No wonder it had 5 horns, Lol. I have a photo in my gallery of what my toothless head is starting to look like. Can you tell me if that's what its supposed to look like? I didn't sew the other part of the horn on because I didn't know if I was doing it right. I'm such a slow learner, i'm sorry, Lol.

I have no idea how to do links, but here's the URL to the pic. [link]
(You can highlight over it, right click, and paste it to the top search thingy)
The red indicates the seams. Its a pretty bad drawing, I know.

It looks like you did it right since he has four horns. But let me see if I'm looking at it right. The left side is the chin, and the right is the upper part of the head right? but you did forget to attach the horns to the upper and lower head pieces. You were supposed to tape the paper pattern pieces together in part 1 of the tutorial. It's not a big deal though, it just creates more seams.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "size". If you're talking about printing, when printing out the pattern, copy each part into Word and resize it to fill the entire screen. Or, if you want a slightly smaller plush, just leave each image the way it is.

nooby-banana In reply to KaiRedfern [2010-10-11 00:55:32 +0000 UTC]
Nope, just expand it. It's in the correct 8 1/2 x 11 format already, Photobucket just made it smaller (grrr stupid site...). So just make it fill the page and you're good.

Okay so the chin is confusing me, do I need to make two chins and put them together, kinda like the two sides of the head? And then of course leave the slit in the middle for attaching and stuffing.

nooby-banana In reply to Angelgrljesse [2010-07-26 05:15:10 +0000 UTC]
Nope, for the chin you fold the fabric in half, and then place the flat edge of the chin pattern piece on the edge of the fold. Then you cut it out in one big piece. Hope that wasn't confusing!
