Description: The bat-eared fox got its name comes from its bat-wing shaped ears, or due to the fact, that their ears are bigger as 13cm long. Most of these insectivorous foxes are native to eastern and southern Africa, like aardwolves and graeybacked jackals. They are social in skulks up to 15 foxes, or they can live in pairs. Such pairs like a breeding pair, or a bond between siblings. The insects they eat fulfill the majority of their water intake needs. The bat-eared fox refuses to feed on snouted harvester termites, likely because it is not adapted to tolerate termites’ chemical defense. Their teeth are very small, so the bat-eared foxes use their long sticky tongues to eat ants and termites(except for the ones who used chemicals), like an aardvark and aardwolf. The predators of the adult fox, was the lion, leopard, African dholes, striped, brown, and spotted hyenas, and eagles, and the predators of the fox kits, are jackals, golden wolves, and other small carnivores. Botswana natives hunted these foxes for their fur, but they are really important for termite population control.
