If your not done with the line art but want to finish it later just go to "save as" and save it in "xcf" file type----
just go to "file type"...
Oh and nice work!

helpful, but I don't really know how to create straight lines, which are pretty important for backgrounds and whatnot. You could use the path tool though right? And just not bend the lines? But is there a way that you can make sure that they're COMPLETELY horizontal or vertical,? as opposed to just eyeing it? It would really help meh' out, thanks ;_;

Absolutely! You can click the rulers from the top or side of the canvas and drag down a guide line. Your lines will snap to the guideline. Play around with it!

OH NOES! HELP...please?
Lol, sorry, this is a great tutorial but i just can't figure out the "Path Tool". Every time i plot a point then another point and connect them and curve them and such, as soon as i change tools all the lines i made and curved just disappear... what am i doing wrong? I don't know why its doing this and i find it kind of depressing . Your tutorial is so helpful but i just don't know what wrong with my paths tool
.
Also I'm a complete idiot and can't find where i can put my picture on low opacity. I think i am digital art challenged >_>...

pheona In reply to fyrewhisp [2010-03-04 18:30:56 +0000 UTC]
Sorry for the delay in the reply! Yes, your paths will disappear after you switch tools. Make sure you are tracing the path before you use another tool. For the opacity, the slide bar is in the Layers dialogue

don't worry, I think I know what you're doing wrong (: Or in this case,what you're NOT doing
If you look below all your tools you'll se that when you use the "path tool" there will be words that you can choose. I have the swedish gimp, but I think it will say: "design", "edit", "move" "mark along the line" and "strike along the line" in english.
When you're done with all your lines using the path tool, then you have to press the button that says "strike along the line". Then a window will apear where you can choose what pixels you want the lines to be in. There you write 1,5 and then press OK, and you're done (:

Yeah thank you for replying, after i wrote that i spent like an hour trying to figure out what i did wrong and i finally figured it out and i now have a lineart done ^^.
Mine say "selection from path" and "stroke path", so seeing as i did those i am guessing that is what your talking about. Thank you so much, your tutorial has been so helpful, now i move on to your colouring one! Yes .
