Thank you so much for this tutorial! I had been wondering how people got their line art so cleanly and so fast, I had no idea that I was doubling my work by getting the pen tool settings wrong ><
You are so awesome

what if your tablet that should have pen pressure doesn't `t have pen pressure i just learned that simulate pen pressure does not without pen pressure tablet.

You can still use the pen tool without a tablet or a non-pressure sensitive, you just won't be able to simulate pressure. If you have a Wacom or something you, you might need to restart Photoshop or reinstal your tablet drivers to get it to work. Also, if simulate pressure is checked off and you have a working, pressure sensitive tablet, your minimum diameter just might be too high.

i can't seem to make this brush for my lineart, i followed your steps, but it won't work. could you help? i have photoshop cs 2. thank you!

Popo-Licious In reply to MistyQue [2012-11-07 23:48:04 +0000 UTC]
Are you using a tablet? If not, you won't be able to get pen pressure. :3
Otherwise, open Photoshop, reset your brushes, pick one of the ones in the first row, open up the brush menu, and make sure that the minimum diameter is set to zero. If you open the brush menu and you see a little caution/warning symbol next to the pen pressure option, something is wrong with your tablet. >o<

I've been using the pen tool for all my PS work for about 9 years (and yes, I've followed similar methods to what you got here, and I also use pen pressure to make nice smooth line-art strokes with think middles and thin ends, etc., to make outstanding line-art), but I must say this tutorial is one of the best things to come around, not only for people who are new at using PhotoShop in general, but to veterans who're looking back to refresh their memories.
And here's the kicker that made me drop my jaw: All these years, I had NO idea that you could create a straight line, add a point, and crtl+click that point and drag it. It's proves 1.) I'm an idiot (LOL!) and 2.) you got a better handle on PhotoShop's pen-tool than I do, and for that, I tip my hat to you, dear sir/ma'am.
And to see a line-art/pen tool tutorial with a daily deviation under it's belt makes this all the more to be proud of. You've made a tutorial that's simple, and looks like it wold only a few hits...and look where it has taken you! =3
You deserve a lot more than just a daily deviation. You deserve a lot more! **hugs**
Outstanding job!
