Another thing, I have Photoshop, can I make my lines not get all pixelated when I zoom in?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Popo-Licious In reply to AnneHairball [2012-04-03 13:31:28 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately, no. If you keep the path on the screen, you can zoom in as much as you want. However, as with all rasterized lines in Photoshop, once you "commit" to pixels, they have a set resolution that becomes blurry as you zoom in closer, and sharper/blockier as you zoom out. You can avoid this problem slightly by working on a reasonably sized canvas (not too big, not too small), but overall, you'll always have pixelation when you zoom. :3

Great Tutorial!!, but when its a scanned drawing , obiously its all dirty , HOW DO I CLEAN THE BACKGROUND? do I have to create a new layer to do the paths and the stroke thing, or do it on the background layer? cuz the paths are gonna be cleaned but the background not. How?
(Im new with photoshop) >//<

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Popo-Licious In reply to Zel-Da-Hedgie [2012-03-22 05:02:01 +0000 UTC]

DO NOT PUT YOUR PATHS ON THE BACKGROUND LAYER.

I can't stress this enough! *A* Here's how you should arrange your layers:

Layer 3
Layer 2
Layer 1
Background/Sketch

Layers are transparent when they start out life, so if you draw on them, they will be separate from the background, AKA your dirty sketch. If you draw on the background layer directly, you won't be able to separate your new and clean lineart from the sketch. You can make a many layers as you want for as many paths as you want. :3

When I use the pen tool its kind of round in the middle
I found it when I used it by creating the path its curves but it kind of blobby wider in the middle ;D
any ideas why?

Popo-Licious In reply to DEAFHPN [2012-03-22 14:06:58 +0000 UTC]

It sounds like you're not using a defualt PS brush. Open up the brush selector, click the little arrow button in the menu, and then pick "Reset Brushes". Try the first one. :3

Popo-Licious In reply to DEAFHPN [2012-03-23 12:25:15 +0000 UTC]

It looks like maybe it's an issue with points. You only need a few points and anchors. The furry area around the jaw makes it look like you put a point at every corner and also every place where you wanted the line to bend. It that's the case, make sure you rely on your directional handles. If this isn't the case, I'm not sure what to recommend. D:
