Description
"This world ain't big enough for the two of us..."There are so many sites/complaints that bitch on Simba being a copy of Kimba. If you must get angry, be angry with Disney for not giving Osamu Tezuka any credit. But why hate on TLK itself? Ripoff or not, it's a kick ass movie! I guess this piece reflects the fans that are for Kimba vs. the fans that are for The Lion King. Keep in mind, this is strictly a joke. I'm a big fan of TLK, but I do still want to see some of Kimba, The White Lion. (or Leo, the Lion) Even when that happens, I'm not turning my back on Simba. Later, I will make a picture of the two lions getting along just fine, the way that I wish Kimba and Simba fans would. I'm not here to bash one and claim the other as the 'victor/original'. I'm here to celebrate the existence of both movies/shows/characters.
BTW, Simba is Swahili for 'lion', not a ripoff of the name 'Kimba'.

I personally like both...
I like Kimba because it's the original (it created so many fond memories for me. <3) and I like LK because of the songs (Just Can't Wait To Be King gets stuck in my head.. lol) and Kovu.

randomly found this. just need to say:
Disney was in a bidding war for the rights to Tezuka's characters, so they could make a Kimba movie in their own style. however, the legalities fell through after many months of lawyers jockying for the rights to the material (they judges ruled that nobody had a right to tezuka's stuff anymore, and that all his stuff essentially died with him, so i recall).
Disney, however, had allready started PRODUCTION on their kimba movie. so when the law stuff fell through, they went back and edited what they had, and reworked the story so it was more origional, though they later pawned off the idea that TLK was a lion retelling of the shakespearian story 'hamlet'.

I'd like to add a little blurb onto that if you don't mind xD
A spokesperson/friend of Tezuka did say that they are two completely different films, and that even if Disney had kept it the way it was and that it was basically 'copied' from Kimba, he would have been honored because Disney was his favorite animator and was heavily inspired by Disney's early works (as with all Japanese Anime).
Got that info from here: [link]

yah, so essentially, had disney won the rights to it, simba woulda been a white furred lion with a K at the beginning of his name instead of an S.

They're not supposed to look like they're getting along; they represent how fans of each lion act when they get around one another...as if one's better than the other. I'm saying that I wish the fans of each side would just get along.

The two shows are nothing alike so I don't see how it's a copy. If someone wants to accuse one show of copying another it should be Leo and Kimba, though, I think they're by the same company anyway..

SailorHarmony2000, it is kinda funny, because of the "Kimba vs, Simba" thing going on. i decided to make a crossover, like have my original character scuta, along with Nala, and the others that Kimba the white lion is the father of Scuta. hehe. i agree with you that kimba and simba fans should get along.

I'll say this first, I do not want to agrue over this. I repeat, DO NOT. (I read your author's note, this for all those who want to argue and moan)
Having said that I can start. Osamu Tezuka should have recieved credit from Disney. But "The Lion King" and "Kimba the White Lion" are very different stories. There is no doubt in the back of my head that Disney should give credit to end this contorversy, but "The Lion King" is still my favorite childhood movie. I saw it in theaters when I was 3 and I have loved it ever since. Nobody can take that from me, but it hurts when people make it seem like I should not feel that way.
Besides, nobody but me realises that a work based on a Tezuka manga has stolen parts of another movie. It's called "Metropolis". In 1927 it was a hugely pivotal German Sci Fi film. Tezuka made a manga very different from it, but after he died it got made into a movie that was far different from his. The anime resembles the other movie more than the manga. And they give the German movie no credit, even though their movie looks like an anime version of it. It is a great anime, but I hate that they not only stole ideas, but they deviated from Tezuka's story.
That is something I find unfair because we all have to point the finger at Disney, but not the men behind "Metropolis" for doing the same thing.
(sorry for my essay.)

It's okay...I don't mind hearing people's opinions. ^^ I just hate hearing people say that 'this person copied that' when technically, everything is copied from everything. I've lost count on the number of movies that I remembered a specific scene, yet saw something very similar in another movie. Not only in movies, but in many remixes of older songs, no one complains when the remix hits #1 and many times the credit is not properly given to the artist of the original music/song.
I guess when I drew this, I kept thinking, "why are people mad at Simba and/or The Lion King?" It's not real... if one must harbor angry feelings at the whole situation, but angry with whomever came up with the idea at Disney, not Simba, Nala, and the rest of the gang. The movie is still done beautifully.

Exactly, like I said nothing will stop me from loving "The Lion King". I just think it's unfair that Disney didn't credit this as a remake and that nodody talks about "Metropolis" in the same manner because the same thing happened there.

Like I said I like both...So I can fight with myself I guess you could say...LMFAO!
I think the only person it should bother is Osamu Tezuka...But I don't see him bitching about it, so it can't be a bad think???

Oh, I KNOW people get waaaay to bitchy about it! I LOVE Kimba, even though I've seen very little of it, but I've seen the move Leo jungle emporer, ad love it. I personally love Lion King better, because of the music, and I really don't like the humans in Kimba, but that's only because the animals inKima made their own humanoid-like personas, for example Scar has a type of power-hungry greed that animals don't often have, and they have their bad guys among themselves, so no one has an uneven advatage.
Also, I find the fac that Simba and Nala are related different from Kimba, And Kimba is just overall sweet, but more gory at the same time. Kimba has amazing art for the time, but the animals...don't look like the real animals, while in TLK, they went out and looked ofr the animals, hired animals to come in a look at them so that eveything thew drew looked like the real thing.
Also, Kimba isn't the only move they 'ripped off' There is a feline movie called "Felidae" that has the EXACTire-fight sene, only a zillion times more bloody. but the leap, and then the falling to thier death...s'all there.
So, Kimba and the Lion king are two amazing Movie/books/series, But I don't think there's any reason to become hostle toward anyone. I personally belive that Disnay was going to make it a remake, but then wanted to make it a little more his own, but now that Walt is dead, no one will say that they copied. I mean, look at the banned cover of the litte mermaid, and the whole "SEX" in the cloud in the lion king? I think Walt was a good old perv, who didn't think that children shouldn't be sheltered like they were, so minor things were tossed in. but that's waaaay off subject.
Anyway, I love this picture, And I too think the fans should get along. <3

I love both Kimba and Simba. I think those who call Simba a copycat are just wasting their breath, there's no need to complain. Besides, Simba isn't a copycat. The Lion King, like other Disney movies, was intended to be a remake of Kimba. So what's wrong with that? I found The Lion King a perfect remake of Kimba, Disney did so well at it. The only thing I'm mad about this controversy is the fact that Disney didn't ask permission from Osamu Tezuka, if they did, this fight would have not happened in the first place. Original stories are awesome, but there's no harm in remaking them.

Well Kimba isn't much of a rip off "storywhise". It's more the characterdesigns and backgrounds (and some settings) that were adapted. I still like TLK a lot - even though I like Kimbas story more (especially the manga.) It's such a nice human-animal relationship ... thing which is still a relevant topic today.
As for the Kimba 60's anime, I never liked it. Doesn't do the manga justice at all. Far too childish and too less "circle of life".
Ah well, I love your picture I can't stand all that bitching of the two sides as well so I thought it was cute. ^^
