Description "This world ain't big enough for the two of us..."

There are so many sites/complaints that bitch on Simba being a copy of Kimba. If you must get angry, be angry with Disney for not giving Osamu Tezuka any credit. But why hate on TLK itself? Ripoff or not, it's a kick ass movie! I guess this piece reflects the fans that are for Kimba vs. the fans that are for The Lion King. Keep in mind, this is strictly a joke. I'm a big fan of TLK, but I do still want to see some of Kimba, The White Lion. (or Leo, the Lion) Even when that happens, I'm not turning my back on Simba. Later, I will make a picture of the two lions getting along just fine, the way that I wish Kimba and Simba fans would. I'm not here to bash one and claim the other as the 'victor/original'. I'm here to celebrate the existence of both movies/shows/characters.

BTW, Simba is Swahili for 'lion', not a ripoff of the name 'Kimba'.

Well, it's more along the lines of too many similarities between the two. Kimba came first and some of the things shown in TLK are very similar in a questionable way...at least in some people's eyes. It's not the actual names, but the storyline, the animals, and their roles/relationships. Some say that TLK is a more modern 'remake' of Kimba. There's a really good website that notes certain similarities between the two. But at the same time, I've also been informed that both TLK and Kimba were inspired from Bambi, not from one another. There are also facts that mention Shakespeare's work as a large influence as well (TLK from Hamlet and TLK2 from Romeo and Juliet). Bottom line, I want people to concentrate more on how wonderful both are and not necissarily who's better or who was first. Both are wonderful pieces of art from different times.

Pfft! Please! Kimba would beat Simba at everything! Besides - Simba was based on Kimba. Almost everything Disney does is based on something.

Oh shush and lets stop this age old argument okay? I've had enough of this kind of petty ranting and raving on who's 1st or better.. and honnestly I don't care. and I mean no offence to you or anyone who either loves Kimba or Simba. Truthfully I never knew that Kimba existed until I read more here on the net and after I saw TLK when I was a kid. I'm still a big TLK fan but I'm making plenty of room to collect any Kimba movies I can find. So really I'm for both sides okay? anyways, don't snap at me cuz I don't mean to do that to you K?

made a pic of Kimba and said that Kimba and The Lion King were both based off of Bambi, not copying one another.

Anyway, nice pic ^^ I like both

Very nice drawing. But the true reason as to why there are so many similarities between both lions... They were both based off of Bambi. (:
Osamu Tezuka's (creator of Kimba/Leo) favorite movie was Disney's Bambi. It is because of that movie, he made his show. (:
(Also, it is because of Mickey Mouse he made Astro Boy)
The creators of Lion King said themselves that they were creating a "Bambi in Africa"
Therefor, similarities between the two is obviously going to happen.

Just thought you'd might like to know. ;3

I really like this picture. It's cute.

But TLK isn't really stolen since I read that at one or more of the people who made Kimba also made this movie. So in a way it's not stealing if the people give it to you. ^ ^

sailorharmony2000 In reply to Jathis [2007-05-24 11:28:13 +0000 UTC]

I suppose. I also think that people seem to overlook the fact that there were many other inspirations for this movie as well, including Shakespeare (Hamlet) and Bambi. Thanks for the comments!

I like BOTH lions. Although I do believe Disney stole Kimba, that doesn't mean TLK is bad. I grew up on TLK and it can nedver be a horrible thing in my eyes. I just think stealing is wrong... however I firmly agree with you that Simba/Kimba fans should get along o_o

no, personally I agree with the fact that BOTH films are unique in their own way, and both reallly took after BAMBI.

What a great picture! When I first saw TLK in theaters in 1994, I HAD heard of Kimba, but it didn't occur to me that one could be a copy of the other until I started reading Internet posts. Knowing this, however, has not affected my love of TLK. (Ironically, what HAS affected my love of TLK a bit is TLK2--mainly because of Kovu, whom I think is a great character. I find that I watch the sequel more than the original.)

If you haven't already, you really should make an effort to see the Kimba series as well as the 1997 movie JUNGLE EMPEROR LEO. It's fantastic stuff.

By thy side,

Figaro

I can more, like, hum the song than actually sing it. I like TLK, but never like the people that saw TLF prior to Kimba.

Oh, oh! Another example of plaaaain plagiarism has to do with Atlantis and some other anime (can't remember the name though..). The idea of Atlantis is ok, but the character design AND naming is just plain SAD SAD SAD.

Love the drawing, sailor, and yes, I do believe we can like both lions as long as we can ignore what happened.

The Lion King is my all time favorite mobvie, and though I was looking at sites about Kimba and Simba, I still love it.

Yes, there are alot of similarities, but the name thing, Simba is the African word for Lion, I don't think they were ripping off the name.

Yeah, I agree with the name. I actually found that out on the radio on a quiz that the station was having, but there are many who don't know that Simba means 'lion'. (like my name )

finding Kimba dvds in the dollar aisle caught me by surprise,
it now sparked my interest in the series,

and my first point to search from is RightSTUF, who has the 11 dvd box set for this series, i hope the voice acting is better than what i am watching now, if not i might not invest into it.

i know all there is to know about TLK, personally it was effective in the way it was created, despite it's core ideas being a rip from TLK. but something about the original makes it shine above all else.
then again, the voice of Mufasa just rocked, too bad he's dead now. american animation needs some serious work, i mean Disney itself inspired anime's creation, so shouldnt american animation possess the head start against anime, and not the other way around? this ive wondered for so long.
