Description "This world ain't big enough for the two of us..."

There are so many sites/complaints that bitch on Simba being a copy of Kimba. If you must get angry, be angry with Disney for not giving Osamu Tezuka any credit. But why hate on TLK itself? Ripoff or not, it's a kick ass movie! I guess this piece reflects the fans that are for Kimba vs. the fans that are for The Lion King. Keep in mind, this is strictly a joke. I'm a big fan of TLK, but I do still want to see some of Kimba, The White Lion. (or Leo, the Lion) Even when that happens, I'm not turning my back on Simba. Later, I will make a picture of the two lions getting along just fine, the way that I wish Kimba and Simba fans would. I'm not here to bash one and claim the other as the 'victor/original'. I'm here to celebrate the existence of both movies/shows/characters.

BTW, Simba is Swahili for 'lion', not a ripoff of the name 'Kimba'.

It is not art theft if Disney is stealing ideas. Disney stole IDEAS, not ARTWORK. I personally prefer Lion King, even though I've never seen Kimba, but I've seen the artwork and heard of lots of things, and the style of artwork isn't that great (in my eyes). Anyway, this picture is adorable.

I'm all for Kimba, but let me ask a question, these people who are FOR the Lion King, they are supporting art theft and or plagerism (spelling?) so, if that is the case, why do people get up in arms about art theft? To me this is the exact same thing. Not your art piece (I love your art) but I mean the movie ^_^

The people that I've talked with about this topic are pretty much in agreement with what I'm saying. They, too, think that it was wrong of Disney to take the idea and not give credit where due, but they (like I do) also wonder why does one have to choose between Kimba and Simba? Why can't people like both of them? I'm not defending Disney for what they did, but I'm not going to bash The Lion King and it's characters either. The movie is still a good movie, IMO. Make any sense?

SerenaH In reply to sailorharmony2000 [2007-01-22 19:46:44 +0000 UTC]

no because the movie was a rip. Ok, let's say someone like me or some other lesser known person stole from Disney, stole the story, but gave character's a different name and different style and different colors.

How do you think that would go over?

Yeeeah I am totally NOT supporting Disney. That is why I'm in "awe" of most of these people. I'm not being mean, but it's like supporting art theft and plagerism.

Disney is supposed to be about good clean family entertainment and Disney seems like they don't support their own values, all they care about is money.

That is why when I see a disney commerical on tv they go," making dreams come true." Yeah for a "price." And Disney is so expensive, it's almost making it not affordable to normal income families, where as Universal is ALOT cheaper it's very affordable.

To me Disney lost it's magic after the Lion King rip, plus they lack ideas, they're making sequels to everything that comes out O_o that makes me sad.

Well, I agree with the lacking of ideas lately with Disney movies, but keep in mind; many people found out about TLK first and didn't know about Kimba, so their first love is TLK. It's harder than you think to take something loved so much from people and saying "don't have anything to do with it" when that's what they were introduced to first. Some people know about the theft, but still are in love with the art and music of TLK, not just the storyline. Yes, it shocked me to find that the story was already done, but I'd be lying if I said that I now hate Disney and TLK. I've grown up on Disney and it's hard to just say "I'm threw with it!" all of a sudden now. Lately, I just haven't bought anything from them, as I'm sick of the sequels and such. But I'm not parting with my older Disney collection.

When you think about it, buying generic foods, medicines, etc. is more supporting theft, as a similar, yet cheaper product comes out and people still buy it; keep in mind that they already knew about the original. Again, not everyone knew about Kimba. If you changed some already made characters and I saw those characters first and fell that much in love with them, it would still be hard to part with the characters. I'd question you, in particular, though. Disney will get what's coming to them eventually, so there's no need for me to worry over it.

Or, I guess if that was a bad example, we could say the same about music. How many times has a remake of a song come out, but it not mention that who the original creator is? More specific, if people really felt that they were helping to support theft or plagerism, a lot of 'Bodyguard' soundtracks would have been burned after finding that Whitney's song 'I Will Always Love You' was originally Dolly Parton's song. Thing is, many were introduced to Whitney's version first; doesn't mean that they can't like Whitney's version as well as Dolly's (let's say hypothetically that credit wasn't given to Dolly; as I don't know if it was or not).

I love Kimba for the first time I saw him when I was a kid, I still love simb but not as much as kimba.
this is not the first time disney does this, lately they're making movies that takes AFTER another movie like Antz made by dreamworks, bugs life came right after antz in a few months making it a copy but will jolly colourful bugs added.

That might be the case, but let Disney feel the sting of karma. It'll all come back on top of them, but for now, couldn't one like the movie 'A Bug's Life' just as much as the movie 'Antz'?

Yeah, I'm the Leo fan ;3 I did a few class speeches about this subject. I also bought a book that talks all about how D*sney stole the movie.
But whatever, it's not the first time D*sney took something without credit or permission... and probably won't be the last, knowing how corruped they've become
*points to the shirt "Mirror Mirror on the Wall, Who Created Me After All?"*
I like the original D*sney films, like Beauty+Beast, Robin Hood, Fox/Hound etc etc. The ones Walt himself made

As for your art, I like it! I like how the poses are the same but also different at the same time. I really like Leo's face too. And that cel shading! <3

I think I was channel hopping when I first saw Kimba, and I found it suspicious. Then I found out that Kimba was the original Lion King...mind, it did look old. But still, I'd like to see more Kimba, and I do think TLK was a great film.

Nice artwork, I like their expressions.

^^ There seems to be 3 categories as far as Simba vs. Kimba fans...

1) I hate Disney; they ripped off Kimba (+ for Kimba)
2) So what? TLK is still one of the best Disney movies out there (+ for Simba)
3) I don't care/I just want this topic to stop, as I'm tired of hearing it.

It might have been wrong not to credit the original creator, but it's done and over with; nothing we can do. Let by gones be by gones and hope that Disney doesn't do it again.

Wonderful meaning! I've loved TLK since I first saw it when I was four years old, and it saddens me to see people at each others necks over this subject.

I rented something at Blockbuster once called "Young Emporer Leo". It seemed to be about a young white lion. Unfortunately it definitely WASN'T what Kimba the White Lion was supposed to be. Probably a lame knock-off. I really hope to see it for myself someday, though, just as you've said.

I've actually seen an image like this, only they were giving each other a high-five (or four, depending on whether or not you count the dewclaw). yes, i've done my bitching and complaining about this conflict too, but i still like both very much, even though i too have not gotten to see any Jungle Emperor Leo/Kimba the White Lion.

When i first heard about the Lion King, i was overjoyed. I thought to myself, "Finally! Disney's come up with an original story for a change!" Then I heard about Kimba, and lost a lot of respect for Disney. I guess it wouldn't have been so bad if Disney had only given some credit to Tezuka. But no, they didn't even do that.

I think on one hand these two would cooperate because they want the best for their subjects, but on the other hand, there is only so much of Africa to go around and they do have a few differences of thought when it comes to ruling.

Regardless, this is a very nice piece. You got the angle of them "brushing manes" quite on the money, and the colors are bright and accurate. Excellent job!

I totally agree with you there. I was REALLY obsessed with Lion King when I was younger. Then a few years ago, I learned about Kimba and how Lion King was a rip-off. I am extremely mad at Disney for what they did, and now I really can't stand Lion King that much anymore...

You really should find a way to watch Kimba, it's a very good show.
