Nice tutorial man ! AWESOME STUFF !
One question tho, is gimp better than illustrator or photoshop ?

Sapiento In reply to Zaigwast [2017-07-31 15:07:00 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!
It's similar to Photoshop. Illustrator is a vector program, a good free alternative is Inkscape.

Maybe a different layer mode setting?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Tardis218 In reply to Sapiento [2014-08-22 12:55:00 +0000 UTC]

for the second layer I selected the option for it to be white

Sapiento In reply to Tardis218 [2014-08-22 16:30:38 +0000 UTC]

Did you make a selection? Otherwise I have no clue why there should be an outline.

Sharpen. That's a PS command, but there is a similar effect in GIMP.

Admittedly, I don't use much from this tutorial any more. However, it definitely helped me take my maps more seriously than I had been, and was a great starting point to learn from.

I tried to do this tutorial using Photoshop, but I couldn't figure out how to work it. But GIMP made everything awesome!

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Sapiento In reply to xDraconianKingx [2011-08-22 06:03:18 +0000 UTC]

I'm happy that you could use it. PS has the same functions but different names for the commands. You could try to find a 'translator' for GIMP to PS commands.

Hey man great tutorial. Very useful! I have a question regarding GIMP though. How do I get the text to curve?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Sapiento In reply to Blablahead1 [2009-10-25 05:18:38 +0000 UTC]

Hm. There is a 'Text along path' button in the Text tool button. Try this.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Blablahead1 In reply to Sapiento [2009-10-25 18:05:27 +0000 UTC]

Ok, thanks but when I do that, it only shows the outline of the letters. How do I make them filled in?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Sapiento In reply to Blablahead1 [2009-10-26 13:18:55 +0000 UTC]

I have no clue at the moment. That's why I use Inkscape. It's much less complicated that the option in GIMP. Sorry that I can't give you more advise.

ColonelGoth [2009-09-14 21:33:47 +0000 UTC]

This is extremely useful. One question how do you do stripes?, for joint control etc?

Atm I'm jumping between Paint.net and Gimp.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Sapiento In reply to ColonelGoth [2009-09-15 04:38:14 +0000 UTC]

Stripes? Hm, I'll have to take a look at GIMP.
Maybe you could make the stripes on one layer, select the area where you want to have the stripes on the map and than select-copy the stripes into the selected area. I don't know if this works before I've taken acually a look at GIMP, it's just an idea.
