Wow! I need to try that! and I DO have the problem with my lines getting picked up by the eraser, so I normally use Illustrator to do the lineart. Only problem is, it doesn't look natural if U know what I mean. It ends up looking all blocky. Anyway, I'm gonna give ink another shot. and if U do want something with more ink, check out the "Copic Multiliner" its refillable and it might help ya out! [link] here it is, its a bit expinsive but I think it does a good job

This is amazing! I finally understand more about the Pigma Micron pens. I just bought an 005 pen about two weeks ago, but I noticed it was too freakin' thin. Thanks to you, I learned what those numbers meant. XD

I love that technique you have of inking quickly with line definition. That's something I can barely get "right".

This is extremely helpful. I used to do the slow wobbly inking as you called it here, and it really made me want to stop inking traditionally. But now that i see this i feel i can do a lot better with this method.

I've had that trouble too, so thank you so much for adressing that!

Erasing is always fading out my pictures, but I'm going to go try this now!

Sweetness! I like the fact that you mentioned that inkers should learn how to draw as well. In my case, it's the opposite.... I'm learning how to do it all. Yeah, I'm that nucking futz.

There's nothing wrong with inking slow, just have more confidence so the lines don't come out too sloppy

Fantastic! A friend reccomended this to me, so I'll have to thank her too. I recently started working with ink again, its been a while so I just spent a small fortune on some good kit. I've found the Faber-Castell Manga set to be very good, and I have my trusty Staedtler's for the simple stuff. Just one question tho.. I've found using a lightbox a great alternative to working over pencil, and especially handy for previewing before a scan. Is that a fairly common practice or am I just unusual?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StevenSanchez In reply to Simplepsy [2008-05-20 17:12:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, many illustrators use that method, for me, my eyes are sensitive to the light, I'm like a friggin bat when it comes to light tables. Can't really use'em too long. But yeah, if you feel comfortable doing that, that's fine

Sketch more, gain that confidence through sketching

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Motokogirl92 In reply to StevenSanchez [2008-05-19 14:19:59 +0000 UTC]

the problem isn't the sketching, its the inking.
gah! i don't know how to say it @___@
you...eh... made a stroke(?) with your pen and then again and again over it.
whel i try to do so too, it turns out crappy >.>
I hope you understand, what I mean, my english isn't so good u__u"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StevenSanchez In reply to Motokogirl92 [2008-05-19 16:00:37 +0000 UTC]

I know what you meant the first time. It's your sketching! Your confidence isn't 100% there yet so you can't stabilize your direction just yet. Trust me. Sketch more and little by little you'll see the change. Sketch as much as you can.

hey hey,^^ you could try sketching out the line first, on another piece of paper, to get the feel for it and also to build up your confidence, before you ink your actual piece ( if that helps you )

anonymous-to-you In reply to ??? [2008-05-19 02:46:24 +0000 UTC]

This was seriously SO much help! I have been so lost as to how to use my pens to ink in my sketches, I feel like every time I try to put the lines down on the paper they lose something that the pencil sketch did. I think I just need to be more confident and unafraid to just put the damn line down. I think about it too much.

DemonEater [2008-05-16 18:30:25 +0000 UTC]

This one really helped me out San. The part about building on the line and being confident. I can use a pencil all day, but sometimes you get to the inks and get all nervous, whew. Thanx again.

i should stick with traditional inking instead of trying ti ink in PS of Corel. San any tips of how to ink in those programs. I started with my Ryu but i want to ink without using the pen tool. know what i mean.

StevenSanchez In reply to Chance-One [2008-05-12 22:20:43 +0000 UTC]

I hear Illustrators the way to go with digital inking. I've tried it myself but it's a lot of work. I mean you get awesome lines and crisp and clear ones too but in the long run. I'll stick with traditional.

Chance-One In reply to StevenSanchez [2008-05-12 23:12:01 +0000 UTC]

i agree. maybe ill try Illustrator again tonight and ill try to post something up. But I do like the traditional way better though.

Thank you very much for this.

I've had microns for a while, and I have noticed that it is a little bland to just use that slow technique.

I am working on inking something I did last night, and it's really cool.
Thanks again, this helps a ton.
