I have one question does you method apply to hair as well?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StevenSanchez In reply to Scarlet-Songstress [2008-10-21 11:49:12 +0000 UTC]

Yup, practicing helps to get a steady hand, but it all depends on how you yourself wants to ink.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StevenSanchez In reply to Scarlet-Songstress [2008-10-21 11:52:52 +0000 UTC]

If you're inking at a slow pace it's due to over thinking of how that line will be put down, so ink a little faster and see if that helps. And if that improves and you're having issues getting those lines to stay as close to the artwork, that's just practice, keep at it.

It's taken me 8 years of sketching in pencil to get my pencil sketching, human form, and personal style down. Now, now I'm finally starting on inking- I just bought my first micron set- so this video is a huuuge help. Lets hope it doesn't take me another eight years x_x

this is soo helpful. the whole time i have been inking with sharpies! cause i don't have an artistic person to look up to. my family thought i was doing it the right way(but they know don't jack crap about art...sad but true.) sharpies do a good job kind of but they bleed and their scent distracts me. any ways thank for the tips

wow man this is great! i never felt confident with inking enough that i would do it in fromt of people let alone for the whole world to see! but this is great! im bout to get me some of them microns!

TimelessProphet [2008-08-26 02:20:37 +0000 UTC]

If you use prismacolor pens instead of microns they don't pick up when you erase, but you have to be careful if you use a vinyl eraser to let it sit a while before erasing because sometimes it'll smear. I've never had that happen with a kneaded eraser, though.

lovely tutorial by the way.. its kinda funny, you sound like my cousin. Anyhoo, I have no real problem with inking except my hands tend to shake, do you have anytips on calming down before you ink or anything? also, I notice you don't put anything under you inking hand( to prevent buckling of your paper)do you tend to use a thicker type paper or do you just keep you hand lifted?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StevenSanchez In reply to himitsunokoi [2008-08-21 15:10:17 +0000 UTC]

I use my other hand to hold the paper.

Practice cures all, so keep practicing and you'll see a difference.

Thanks for the tutorial. I've never tried the "quick, confident lines" approach, I've been a slow and wobbly inker since the beginning, but it might help to try a new technique.
