Ok.
Seriously.
This was painful to watch.
2:30m into it, and all you've actually said was "this is a french curve" and pointed out the few thicknesses of pens you have handy.
That should not take 2 and a half minutes to do. I really could have done without the HAW HAW WEE WEE and rambling.
Get to the point, dude. I'm not saying you have to be all bland and boring inking "happy trees"... I'm just saying, shit, give some relevant information more often. Get to it.
You need to be as confident on camera as you claim to be with your ink strokes.
If I'm going to be watching a tutorial or technical guide, all I care about is the info. If I want to hear someone rant or make jokes, I'll look up a blog or a stand up act.
Just some advice.
You have great skill, so it's good to see people with skill providing tutorials for the beginners and amateurish folks to get their bearings with... but man :/ get to it.

This is so helpful. I need to get some micron pens. Right now all I have are writing pens, so it's kind-of hard.

Love the tutorial and thanks for stressing the need for inkers to be able to draw. It's not incredibly necessary helps a ton. Reminds me a little about the running joke in chasing Amy about inkers=tracers. It was funny, but sadly true in how some folks view it.
Really glad to hear I'm not the only one who nearly puts their nose to the paper. I'm always told to step back, don't get sucked up in the little details. But it's fun! ><;
And I really hope you do a tutorial on brushwork. Kudos and congratulations on the daily deviation.

When you were talking about the "ink fading off a bit" or something, "during the earsing", you didn't seem to know this:
The quality of the eraser and the paper are the important things, when it comes to inking with ink pens, instead of calligraphy pens.
Calligraphy pens "put the ink in the paper", while the ink pens simply leave the ink on top of the paper. This is where the quality of the paper and the weight of it matter.

StevenSanchez In reply to Frozen89 [2008-05-10 18:42:14 +0000 UTC]
To tell ya the truth, I've used the highest brand of Strathmore paper and still the ink from the Micron Pigma has been lifted off. I use light soft strokes when erasing with a kneaded eraser, it does help. Now you can use different pens, that's fine, I find that india ink works best and is what's recommended but to each is own ya know

A thing I found recently, you might find interest in, is an eraser pillow. I don't know what it's actually called but it's a little cloth pillow filled with gummy eraser powder. I've found it to be hugely helpful with this problem if you have lighter pencil lines. It doesn't erase well and you may still need the gummy if you put down heavy pencil lines, but it doesn't pick up your micron ink. I got mine up at pat catans for around 3 dollars and found it in the drafting/architecture section.

Hey man. As always, great tut. I've still been practicing my sketching, so I've held off on watching this inking one until I had something to ink. Really helpful as always.
One of the big things that's finally clicking for me in watching your videos is simplicity. You gotta draw what you see, not what you think you see, not even your impression of what you think you see.
Anyway, you have a really simple way of presenting things that's really helping stuff click for me! Thanks!

Simplicity is what makes it all FUN, it's like getting a new piece of machinery or video game. Do you wanna read the rules first, of dive in and have fun That's my method of teaching. Dive in, then rules later
