That grain it? Ummm the grain was on the brush sorta, I used one of the default splatter brushes. That combined with the overlaping of the opacities gives you the result that you see.

Nice tut. But to be honest I think the starfield without the levels adjustments looks much better.
But yeah, anyway, nice tut.

Superiorgamer In reply to 19-10 [2007-10-23 06:24:20 +0000 UTC]

Then again, I guess in the 2 pictures displayed, it was better before the level ajustments but that is in a case without any coloring or depth added let alone a composition. I guess i'm try to make a case against the over clusterd star feilds and showing a mehod how to reduce.....I should have clarified abit more. Thanks for the critic.

19-10 In reply to Superiorgamer [2007-11-06 21:14:42 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it is a good method if you want the stars not too attract too much attention. However, I think the first picture looks much more realistic and has some nice forms in it that got last when applying levels.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Superiorgamer In reply to 19-10 [2007-10-23 06:20:16 +0000 UTC]

Really?!?!? Err the purpose of the level ajustments is to reduce the overall amount of stars, not to make them all vibrant if that is what you are thinking. Do you not agree that starfeilds with over clustered stars are worse then the ones with a smaller portion? Taking a look at your own gallery, your images reflect that. Using the levels are simply a method of reducing the amount of total stars using stocks or the noise method. So I am puzzeled as to why you do not aprove.

Any further elaboration would be most helpful

hey just saw this tutorial and I must say I 100% agree with 19-10 about the starfields but nice tut if you need to get the basics of nebula making keep it up

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Superiorgamer In reply to Akajork [2008-04-18 16:49:03 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that aspect of the tutorial was rather poorly done... :-/ I might have to go back and change it. The whole point was to try an end the overly noised starfeilds. Thank you for the comment!
