thanks irene! i just finished this tutorial with your source file. it has helped a lot. i never knew how to use the displacement maps. and now i know how to use the color balance on just 1 layer without it affecting ALL OF THEM. seriously, i won't be so scared to use them all the time now! thaaanks!
i'm still a little slow on the masks. too addicted to using the eraser. i would love to go over this with you at work at some point.

Do you know if it's possible to make this glowing effect in GIMP or any other program?

Mm, I'm not sure... to be honest, I never used gimp maybe you can google up some tutorials? I'm not sure which one would be the most helpful since I'm not familiar with the program

Alright thank you!? I've been getting into digital and I was just wondering if I should pay up the cash to get photoshop, GIMP was my cheep way out of it, but its frustrating! XD would you recommended Photoshop?

Hugo-H2P In reply to yassanswumgame [2011-02-14 00:04:12 +0000 UTC]
don't know if he would, but I do
like you, I started on GIMP, then shortly after, I went for photoshop, which is incredibly better than gimp.
if you have a tablet, I suggest you to use SAI, because it's waaaay more intuitive and simmilar to hand drawing than photoshop and has some good tools as well (although, not as many and not as versatile as PS), but the feeling of drawing in the SAI is somewhat... unique, you won't feel that way in any other program.
in other words:
gimp < photoshop < SAI
