Usually at any good art store. Go there and ask the people there, they'll surely know what you mean. ^^

I can't say I've ever seen a successful and simple tutorial on using mixed traditional media like this before, especially mentioning highlights.
Thank you very much, I'm going to go pull out my pencils now

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TaniDaReal In reply to BlueHunter [2009-05-24 14:56:54 +0000 UTC]

BlueHunter In reply to TaniDaReal [2009-05-24 15:23:20 +0000 UTC]

Not if you're using the right kind of paper.

As written in the tutorial - either special marker paper or Bristol with a smooth surface.

Hiya Schnolf! (I think I am a "wolfox" or something... my alter-ego, Asbowlyn, is half wolf and half fox)

I realize that you probably don't have time to read the bazillions of comments you get, but I have to give you a ginormous "thank you" for taking the time to put together a tutorial to go along with this piece.

As a new artist, I am constantly being told "no, you don't need to go out and buy super-expensive materials; just use a pencil and paper". But I feel that as a new artist, one of the most important things I can do for myself is to explore the different mediums and techniques, what supplies are available to me, and how they produce different results. I would like to be good not only at drawing, but at choosing the best medium and tools for the job!

I want to thank you in particular for showing the exact supplies you have put to use - knowing that your stuff doesn't differ that much from the stuff I am using (you are not using a magically-imbued set of colored pencils, correct? ) helps me feel like things are not out of my reach, or, as you put it yourself: 'There is no "secret" - practise is the key!'

Watching my favorite artists post tutorials of their work makes me so happy, as it turns my feelings from "whoa, impossible!" to "wow, I would like to try something like that!"

It also makes me happy to see what a kind and considerate person you are! Thank you!

*happy hugs*

Thank you very much for your kind words! I very much appreciate it and I'm very happy if the tutorial helps. Same here, I also always love to see WIPs and tutorials by others.

*checks her colored pencils again* Nope, nothing magically about them...

would water resistant be the same as water proof in this case?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TaniDaReal In reply to ShadowWolf-18 [2009-05-24 15:09:50 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I am not sure if I've heard about water resistant pens so far. I'd suggest to try it out - smudge some water over the lines and see what happens.

Informative tutorial is informative!

Jojo

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TaniDaReal In reply to Runoratsu [2009-05-24 15:11:21 +0000 UTC]

Is there a Substitute for the copic markers? how do they work different to other markers?

ps. This tutoial is Amazing!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TaniDaReal In reply to Ewazor [2009-05-24 15:16:44 +0000 UTC]

I've only worked with Copics so far, so I can't really tell where are the differences. One time I tried the local marker brand of an Art Store in SFO [link] because I didn't had my Copics with me, they were OK, but the colors were definitively different from Copics (and the pen tips where too big). Many people also use Prisma Markers.
