I do indeed like this tutorial. I never thought about oil-based colored pencils before. Sounds like now's a good time as any to try them myself. Thanks for the tutorial.

Just a question what markers and pencils do you recommend for coloring? At our michaels we have prismacolor pencils and markers, are those good?

TaniDaReal In reply to Dragonwolfblack [2009-05-23 18:57:06 +0000 UTC]
I have never worked with prismacolors (cause they aren't popular here in Germany / I don't know if they're sold here at all), so I can't compare Copics to Prismas. I think the best idea would be asking some US artists. Copic Markers are very professional and nice (but expensive).

Well thats okay! Copics are nice but I can't really find them. They are not at a michaels so when I go up north this summer I'll have to check Dickblicks. Do you know any stores that might have Copics or Polychromos?

TaniDaReal In reply to Dragonwolfblack [2009-05-23 19:16:17 +0000 UTC]
I think you should find them in lots of online stores (search in Google for it). An art store in San Francisco had all of them - Prismas, Copics, their own brand, Polychromos...

Awesome I love the picture too. Do you know if you can do this with just colored pencils instead of markers?

TaniDaReal In reply to Jillianimal [2009-05-23 18:58:43 +0000 UTC]
It will be a little harder to get a smooth basic coloring, but if I look at artists who draw great colorful pictures only with colored pencils (like Bloodhound-Omega), I think it's possible.

what kind of pens do you use for inking? Like what's the brand name and where could i find said pens lol

As written in the tutorial, I use Multiliners from Copic (same brand as the markers). ^^ Those are the silver pens in the first step (left upper corner). They're available in different sizes.
