Looks like a scene from an American Tale if anyone remembers that?
The Song sequence to be exact. "Somewhere out there"?

Idon't know if you've answered this already, but How do you go on making grids in PS? I just can't find anything resembling even slightly to tracing lines, and spacing them evenly...

Any hints would be appreciated

nice job I was just curious. why are you doing all the disney theme and animation theme drawings? are they for practice?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theCHAMBA In reply to mainasha [2008-02-11 04:43:23 +0000 UTC]

if i was to draw sumfin everyday, i might as well make it something i'd enjoy is all.
and a tribute to feature animation that i grew up with is something worth it.

It would be amazing if you could do a more in depth tutorial exploring that handy perspective grid you use. I've been trying to get a hang of the perspective grid i've made myself in photoshop but it never seems to work right.
thanks in advance.

kahahuna [2008-02-08 18:30:04 +0000 UTC]

that perspective grid is such a great idea! Is that a photoshop function or something? How do you do it?

blindsyte [2008-02-08 04:40:15 +0000 UTC]

too bad you don't know a 3d program eh?
those buildings could be created much faster in 3d, rather than use the perspective grids in photoshop.

you're just snapping to grid with the lasso tool right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theCHAMBA In reply to blindsyte [2008-02-08 04:48:23 +0000 UTC]

there's no 'snapping to grid' because unfortunately this grid doesn't work that same way as the photoshop feature grid.
it's a layer

blindsyte In reply to theCHAMBA [2008-02-08 04:53:20 +0000 UTC]

dude! learn 3d it rocks... it would have benefited you on the treasure planet piece (which i loved), and this piece (also love it)

...why would he learn something new when he is mastered this and it works for him? it makes it magical that he can get such results in Photoshop.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

blindsyte In reply to Seiyakai [2008-02-12 06:57:02 +0000 UTC]

why would he not want to grow as an artist.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Seiyakai In reply to blindsyte [2008-02-12 11:54:27 +0000 UTC]

plenty of way to grow as an artist. I don't see the point in your suggestions when he gets a unique and perfect-for-his-style result doing it this way. I simple said what I said because you commented "too bad you don't know a 3d program eh?" when no its not to bad he gets by perfectly without

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

blindsyte In reply to Seiyakai [2008-02-12 18:04:06 +0000 UTC]

don't be so dang serious about it. ^-^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Seiyakai In reply to blindsyte [2008-02-12 23:30:05 +0000 UTC]

serious? when did u get that impression? wrongly based impression. ^^ I dont have much interest in you or convincing him not to do 3d at all so I really am very relaxed about it. I simply wanted to point out 3d would ruin the magic. Imagine if disney decided 3d was easier then drawing it would ruin the show for many. anyways ^^ not interested in continuing talk about this as I have said what I want and anything further will digress into gossip/bickering which doesn't interest me.

Thank you so much for taking the time to show all of us these steps Chamba! I know it's a pain in the ass to do, I'm sure... but it is more than appreciated, the time and trouble you take to help us understand what and how you create your work.

I love seeing stuff like this and trying to learn as much as I can from it...

lizspit [2008-02-07 22:39:54 +0000 UTC]

wow. great work. thanks for posting, it's almost like watching an animation of the work being created. Where can one find those perspective grids anyhow?

t-wei [2008-02-07 21:08:54 +0000 UTC]

very cool tut man, great to see how you work and how bloody efficient you are. small crit: i noticed in a few of your latest works your foreground painted objects are getting a lil muddy which is killin the focus a bit, especially when you blur your bgs. tighten them up and i reckon it'll take your work to the next level.

anyway keep 'em coming. those buildings are freakin nutso

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theCHAMBA In reply to t-wei [2008-02-08 00:12:54 +0000 UTC]

oh yeah i know whatchu mean muddy
because of the quick-ass dodge and burn (which i don't use for anything anymore these days)
no need to tell me, i know this much already.
i do it for these pieces coz they're quick. that's it's primary purpose. quick.
