Description This tutorial shows some of the methods I use to make pictures (and videos). It's not the only way of doing things nor necessarily the best way, so I'm only presenting this information for people to examine. For me, proper control of the MMD camera, lights and their interaction with MME effects are important and the tutorial introduces some of these concepts.

This is a complex area and in all honesty I've no intentions of writing a book, so the information is not comprehensive, but should be suffice for most people to get an inkling of how these systems can work in conjunction with each other to allow for very polished results to be achieved even by a relatively competent beginner.

If you have any questions, please do feel welcomed to post these below. However, I do ask that you respect my time and refrain from asking for model and effects links.

Yep. First thing you want to do, based on what you wrote, is to reset the camera and make sure that's it's not following one of the bones. That will stop the crazy camera movements.

hey i'm looking for a certain effect, it's like where it looks like a mmd model is filming with a video cam. like the recording button at the topΒ of the mmd screen and stuff.Β i wasΒ wondering if you knew where i could find this. i've seen mmders use it before.

Sorry, I've never seen an MME effect that does as you describe although I think I know what you're talking about. Most likely, it's a post effect that is applied through a video processing program like Adobe After Effects.

Hello! Great tutorial! I never knew you could put difffent shaders on different parts of the model at one time! I'm going to go try that!!

Β I have a question for you, if I'm making a video with motion and want to add in or subtract accessories or effects in different frames, like if I want to start out with the OldTv effect but don't want it to continue throughout the video, how would I do that?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Trackdancer In reply to Hetaliagirl133 [2013-12-27 22:06:23 +0000 UTC]

Adding or subtracting accessories is simple. Just hide/show them if needed and if they get in the way for whatever reason you can attach them to a dummy bone so that they can be moved out of the way.

Β

Effects can not be turned off/on so you'll have to find some work around such as doing the video in segments and recombining them in an external editor.

The model is Mamama's very popular Appearance Miku. You should be able to find a link for her on CitrusSmoothie [link] .

Is it possible to turn off the light the camera shines on the target? It causes lighting problems sometimes...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Trackdancer In reply to Debura [2013-02-01 01:27:00 +0000 UTC]

Yes, kinda.

Top Row: Move all the sliders to the left edge
Bottom Row:
Slider top - move to left edge
Slider middle - move to right edge
Slider bottom - move to left edge

This is as close to total darkness as possible with this lighting engine.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Debura In reply to Trackdancer [2013-02-01 01:52:02 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. It is close, but still not quite the result I need. This problem is directly related to the model itself, but it is only a problem when using adultshader on her. It causes either the front or back half of her legs to become dark, depending on which side the camera is facing. It looks really wierd and makes it hard to use her. None of the other shaders I have tried make her look good - just ugly. Diffusion doesn't help either. Other shaders don't pronounce the problem nearly as much.

I was hoping to be able to completely shut off the light shining from the camera - which appears to be causing the problem to show. I don't know of any other potential fix.

Also, thanks for showing how to do the luminous effect. I hadn't yet figured that one out.

Trackdancer In reply to Debura [2013-02-01 03:56:08 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like there are some inconsistencies in the models materials specification. Should be fixable using the PMD editor if you know how to do it.

Debura In reply to Trackdancer [2013-02-01 18:29:51 +0000 UTC]

I do not. I have done plenty of playing with bones, joints, and physics - but nothing with textures/materials.

Great tutorial! Although I've been wondering, how do you add multiple effects?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Trackdancer In reply to xXRandomHetaliaFanXx [2013-01-15 23:02:15 +0000 UTC]

Multiple MME Effects:

You need to use the subset extract function in the MME editing panel. Take off the effects from the areas of the model you don't want and substitute them with an effect that you do want.

If this is still too confusing, drop a response here and I'll see if I can make a tutorial showing how to do this later.

Cheers.

Did you try maximum FSAA (Forced) with Supersampling with the method above?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Trackdancer In reply to cmkenji [2013-01-14 19:56:27 +0000 UTC]

Nope, much easier to just use the built-in anti-alias function plus a blur effect. And if that's not enough, as in the example about, a slight blur and/or a blending layer in Photoshop can take care of the rest.

For video purposes, just the built-in function usually suffices as no one is going to notice any jaggies anyway with the notable exception of those models with harsh drawn lines (most noticeably texture maps with straight lines) which have been problematic in the past. There is a kind of a fix for this too, but that discussion is beyond the scope of this tutorial.
