Nuka wasn't always Nuka, son of Zira; first, he was Mheetu, son of Sarafina. However only Sarafina referred to him by this name, just moments before she passed away from the stress of giving birth. When Zira chose to raise him as a favor to Scar, she renamed him Nuka and claimed him as her own, and refused to let anyone say otherwise. Despite his small size, for he'd been born prematurely, Nuka often tried to compensate by weaving grandiose tales of his adventures, and though Zira knew none of them to be true, she listened anyways because it made him happy. Scar wasn't particularly interested in his small son, and since Zira was rather possessive, his only true source of love was Zira. She wasn't the kindest mother, but in his eyes, she was much kinder than any of the other lionesses.

As he got older, his behavior didn't improve, and in fact got worse when Vitani and Kovu were born and Simba returned. Now he had not only a new home, but new siblings as well, and Sheena's small group only added to his worries of being ignored. Zira seemed completely focused on Kovu and Kovu alone, and Nuka grew jealous; for so long, he'd had his mother all to himself, but now it seemed she didn't see him at all, and not only that, she seemed to treat Kovu the best, letting him eat first and giving him special attention and training that she never spared Nuka. He became bitter, especially towards Kovu, and began doing anything he could to attract his mother's attention, whether negative or positive, though being a mama's boy, it was often more positive than anything.

His attempts at attention mellowed out as he grew older, especially when Alama began to follow him around and praise him. Her attention didn't match up to Zira's, but it was nice nonetheless, and he spent most of his time with Alama, growing a close fondness. Still, nothing could compare to his mother's love, and he continued to do whatever she asked of him, no matter what it was; he would risk it all for his mother's love. Even Alama, his now mate and future mother of his cubs, came second to his mother, and it was his devotion to Zira and her plans that lead to his death.

Now for Nuka! I decided to use his colors from the scene at the very beginning of the movie, since those are pretty close to Scar and Sarafina's mixed together, rather than a gray. I've changed a few designs from the originals to better fit my universe, and Nuka is one of them. I also decided to tie him into the idea of Mheetu, who was in the original draft of 'The Lion King', where he was described as Nala's brother.
