Wengi was born into the simple life of a rogue, and the only boy of a litter of four cubs. Growing up, Wengi was very happy despite his mother's struggle, and he didn't find himself lonely with his sisters as playmates. His mother, though exhausted trying to survive, always made time to tend to and care for her cubs, wanting them to learn valuable life lessons for the future. Wengi absolutely adored his mother, and promised to always take care of her and his sisters, even if he was the youngest. As the cubs grew older, they swapped out games for hunting and fighting lessons from their mother, and Wengi paid much attention, even if he tended to get things wrong the first couple of times.

As they grew older, life was quickly becoming more and more dangerous. While attempting to help their mother with a hunt, one of Wengi's sisters was trampled by a herd of zebra, and she died only hours later. This was a very sobering experience for Wengi, and he decided that to have any safety, they would need a pride. At first, Wengi wanted to make their own pride, to keep his mother and sisters close to him so he could protect them. But as they grew older and older, this hope began to die out. Until they stumbled upon a pride who was willing to welcome his mother and sisters, but not him. Wengi immediately made the choice that his mother and sisters should join, and he would continue as a rogue. They protested at first, not wanting to be separated, but Wengi urged them to go, knowing that if he couldn't keep them safe, they could find somewhere else. Wengi said a tearful goodbye to his mother and sisters, then headed off, alone for the first time in his life.

At first he struggled with being alone. Hunting seemed harder without their help, and run ins with other rogues ended with Wengi fleeing, tail between his legs. Until he met a fellow rogue named Mega, around Wengi's age, and the two became quick friends, traveling together and helping one another out. Wengi enjoyed Mega's company greatly, and the thought of being roaming rogues forever was a common topic of interest. However, Mega soon found interest in a lioness from a pride they came across, and Mega decided that he wanted to join their pride. Wengi, knowing it was time, also said goodbye to Mega, as he knew he didn't have a place in Mega's heart anymore. Once more, Wengi was alone, but this time he felt much better about it, being more prepared and knowing that his loved ones' happiness was more important than his own.

Not long after Mega's departure, Wengi met a lioness of his own, a princess named Angalia. The two began to run into each other more and more often, and quickly fell in love over time. Wengi couldn't be happier to have met her, and when she explained her predicament with her father, he agreed to help in a heartbeat. Wengi challenged King Mkaidi, and using his youth and fighting moves learned from Mega, he defeated Mkaidi and sent him packing. Wengi was now presented with the option to be the main leader of the pride, but instead gave that position to Angalia, believing she would serve it better. Still, he soon became married to Angalia, and became a well loved member of the pride, making friends easily amongst them.

Not long after, Wengi and Angalia welcomed their two sons, Malka and Moyo, into the world, and Wengi adored his sons immensely. Wengi supported his wife's decisions to regain friendship with the Pridelands, and when the Snowy Pride asked to betroth their children, Wengi was initially hesitant, but Angalia convinced him that the new allies would benefit the pride, and so he agreed. Time passed on, and Wengi's once rusty leadership was now much better with practice. When news of Mufasa and Simba's death arose, Wengi supported his wife's decision to stay out of it, as their pride was smaller and had no males other than Wengi and their sons. Malka, however, was angry, as he could no longer visit his friends, and he blamed Angalia, as she made the official announcement of their course of action. Wengi spotted this quickly, and as Malka confided in him, Wengi reminded Malka of his mother's love, and sealed the small rift that had begun to develop.

As his sons grew, life gradually returned to normal, and he was proud to see his sons grow into fine young adults. Soon, news arrived from the Snowy Pride, requesting they send a prince, as their princess was now their sole heir. Wengi was now faced with a difficult decision, reminding him of having to separate with his mother and sisters, and he initially wanted to refuse the deal altogether. But, to help out both prides, Moyo volunteered in Malka's place, and Wengi, proud of his son's decision, sent him off with high hopes. More good news arrived in the announcement of Simba's return, and when Malka left to help and returned with a wife. Wengi was proud of how his sons turned out, and a few months later, passed away of old age before he could see his grandson being born.
