Description I'd first like to preface this by saying that I am by no means an expert at making emoticons, I still have much to learn and I'm sure there are many things I could or should do differently. However, I believe I should at least pass on what knowledge I have on the subject so that others may also learn. I believe each and every one of us have the skill to create emotes and many are just waiting for a basic walkthrough to get them started.

Please don't take this tutorial too literally. I believe the most important thing for any artist is to experiment and grow, to push boundaries and find new and creative ways to express themselves. This is only meant to get you started, to give you a little push in the right direction. Where you go from here is entirely up to you.

Hopefully I'll have an animation tutorial up before long, deviantPLUS is really taking up a lot of my time lately but once it's out of the way I'll go back and make the animation tut

Very good tutorial... I made my own emote. Is it bad if I don't use the gradient?

But I really like this and I faved it! And you can explain good.

It's best practice to use a gradient, but there's no rush on that. Just keep practicing and use it whenever you feel comfortable

I agree with your description, everyone finds their own methods, but this looks like a good starting point for me

Thanks, I don't think shading a circle would be hard at all...it's the movement (and I would want an animated one for sure) that I think would be difficult.

But the pic on my desktop I made it so it moves. It flaps it's wings and it saved that way, but when I tried loading it onto DA it only shows the first slide. I don't understand *wimper* It looks so much cooler flapping it's wings. Maybe in your next tutorial you can tell how to Load a moving GIF onto DA since it doesn't seem to like me

yea sorry.. I got so frustrated at the pic for not moving like the actual pic does I took it off so I could try to mess with it and see if I can get it to move on DA. *sniffle* but it still isn't working
