The Argo-Class was designated as escort and mainly assigned to escort cargo convoys, border patrol and guard federation colonies. Argo-Class vessels hade modest quarters, was maned by a crew of fewer then 100, and mostly captained by Lt. Commander's. Her weapons systems where more advanced then a Miranda-Class however and her payload was replaced with Tri-cobalt torpedo's. In 2291 during the Mirror Universe Incursions, Commander Chekov briefly took command of the U.S.S. Hercules during Earth's defense initiative from the Terran Empire's assault on the Sol System.
