Description
First of all, I'm not saying that fat people can't cosplay as thin characters. Dumbasses always jump to that conclusion. No, you don't have to live your life based off of my opinion. Go ahead and do whatever the hell you want; you're in control of your own life, not me.So, why does it bother me? Because it looks wrong. It's not what the character actually looks like, and a bad cosplay can ruin my perspective of that character because I can't help but associate them with it from thereon out. I know, it's dumb, but that's why it bothers me.
It's like a really hairy dude cosplaying a small feminine character. It looks off.
BUT FEEL FREE TO ENJOY YOURSELVES.

What are you talking about? The only time I said anything close to that is when I said my distaste doesn't apply to other cosplay-related inconsistencies (at least, not as much).
What people do after seeing this is not my responsibility. Given literally anything, you can no-doubt find at least someone who finds it offensive. Usually it's based on a misunderstanding, and I really cannot compensate for that (no do I care to).
I honestly don't believe that you know anything about suicide or depression. If your biggest problem is someone on the internet who doesn't like fat cosplay, you've never had any real issues. I really don't want to hear a word about suicide from the likes of you. You're a spoiled, entitled child who thinks the world revolves around them. Get over yourself.
As a skinny person, you have no idea how many people think I'm anorexic and give me shit for it. It's honestly very annoying to constantly be told to "eat more" or "that's not healthy" or "I'm worried about you (because I assume you have an eating disorder)" etc. But that's beside the point-- I'm talking about attraction, or visual appeal, not acceptance. That is a different matter. I accept fat people. I don't give a shit if people think my skinniness is unattractive. Likewise, you shouldn't care if people think your obesity is unattractive. Everyone is different. Everyone likes different things, and every preference is valid. I don't like having gay sex. That does not mean that I don't accept people who do.
This is getting way, way off-topic though. To summarize: You can be fat if you want to. I don't like seeing it, but I won't try to stop you. If the fact I don't like it makes you depressed, that's your problem-- go get therapy, get off the internet, or go talk to people who do enjoy seeing it.
PS: As a side-note, no one should "like" being fat. It shortens your lifespan considerably. If you care about someone at all, you should make sure that they maintain a healthy weight.

Literally in the comment before this you said it but i guess u realized u were wrong and edited ur comment lmfao disgusting cant even own up to your mistakes
edit: im fucking crying it was in the edited comment actually way to add comparisons when you say not to use them :'3c i havent used them since you told me not to you've been the only one using them disgusting
also italicizing and boldong and underlining doesnt make you right
lmfao im suicidal and depressed dont even try to say i cant have a word on it you privileged asshole. dont act lile you know me or my mental illnesses
saying you dont want to see someone who is fat isnt accepting its revolting
skinny people arent told theyre disgusting and theyre never going to fit in tho lmfao at least people are worried about you and dont just tell you to get up, go outside, run, and eat less when ur going through depression spells and comtemplating starving urself bc of it :'3c
a lot of the time being overweight isnt unhealthy. It you eat a lot of good food and you're overweight you're not unhealthy. If you love your body type you are not unhealthy. Doctors make you think your unhealthy even tho ur not just bc society sees "healthy weight" and "skinny" as right
"What people do after seeing this is not my responsibility" of someone kills themselves or hurts themselves bc of this its ur fault lol try again
If you dont like seeing it dont go outside lmfao dont tell someone their interests bother you out on the internet stay inside and be only with people exactly like urself (aka die alone if you cant handle a body type)
im sick of talking to ur fatphobic and ableist ass lmfao :'3c

I still don't know what you're talking about. You can see what I changed if you want: comments.deviantart.com/1/4658… (Click "Original Comment" on the right)
Analogies are fine. Again, I only meant that it doesn't apply to other parts of cosplay for me (I don't find skin color differences/height differences unappealing).
Why are you calling me privileged? You know literally nothing about me. I guarantee you're a lot more privileged than I am-- not that it matters. If you've truly struggled you'd know the world has bigger problems than your so-called "fatphobia". You know nothing about how the world works. Really, nothing. Your ignorance is revolting.
If you're sick of talking, go ahead and leave, I won't force you to keep responding. We're not even talking about cosplay anymore, so this seems like a good place to stop...

i saw the original comment it was somehow better than the edited one the edited one just made u look like an asshole :'3c
all im asking is that you dont point out how you find fat people unappealing :'3c i dont care ur opinion on how they look, what your preference is, just stop calling people out on it.
the one comparisons im going to make is that you dont go around telling gay people you dont want them cosplaying straight characters, even though your 'preference' is straight people??? and?? im betting you wouldnt call a skinny person 'unappealing' for cosplaying a fat character :'3c
i have three privileges: im able-bodied, white, and middle class. im gay, trans, mentally ill, and fat, which are not privileges so :'3c you also didnt know anything abt me before i just went and said it lmfao so stop being a hypocrite first :'3c
im assuming ur straight by how you say "i dont like gay sex" lmfao and you also joke abt molesting girls so :'3c thats a privilege. ur also skinny :'3c which, in our conversation, is a privilege bc you're not seen as "unappealing" :'3c
fatphobia causes suicides and eating disorders and ur sating its not a big problem??? like... ok. i can very well call you ignorant too lmfao
i mean im not the one who changed the subject :'3c you're the one who started saying no one cares abt me etc etc

I don't find that too discriminatory, since cosplay is usually based on resembling and pulling off the character's look.
Yeah…if you want to cosplay, it's best to go as someone who has a few physical similarities to you if you want to be accurate.

gotta agree, like cosplay who ya want when it comes down to it but
if the character is portrayed in a way that shows their weight and such
part of the art of teh cosplay is choosing someone to cosplay taht suits your face and body type
it also bothers me when its the otehr way round bc it dosnt suit the character and im thinkin 'theyd look more convincing as a character if they cosplayed this other character'
same if someone has a face that suits another character better, just kinda makes it less convincing?
snothin to do w hatin fat people its just how art works
if youre trying to emulate a character why would you go against what you know they look like and compromise the overall feel of the character

i honestly agree, and i'm a (somewhat; im sort of in the ambiguous zone) plus-sized cosplayer who has cosplayed thinner characters. i honestly think i look off no matter what i do.
but holy crap is it difficult to find fat characters I like and can find a decent cosplay for.

Try fat suits.
That's the good thing about being skinny. Fat people can't wear skinny suits.

it's hard to say that though without making everyone think you're just bashing on fat people.
but in general, people should try their best to represent the character they want to cosplay, or decide for a different character they also like if their first choice wasn't in their range of possibilities.

ExplosiveSquid In reply to itsMYopinion [2014-11-21 19:45:41 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, yeah. Not that there's anything wrong with bashing fat people, though.
It's an insult to both the person who designed the character, and the character itself.

It bothers me even more when they are trying to find the smallest and tightest cosplay outfit like why?! I don't want to see you ass and lovehandles! Wear a bigger cosplay outfit size because that small one isn't making you look thinner.
That aside, like you said in the description, they can cosplay to their hearts content, it just bothers me when they think that small size = looking thin -_-

Oh hush. I don't hate fat people per se, and they can cosplay as they wish. I just don't like seeing it; I find it very off-putting, and there's nothing I can do about that.
Just as you cannot force someone to find the same or opposite sex attractive, you cannot force someone to find fat people visually appealing.
