Description
UPD2: Guys, I really am chuffed that so many people found this tutorial helpful. It came as a total surprise when DA gave me a Daily Deviation for it, and that it has accumulated 55K views. I am surprised and honoured. However, I think that this tut is now terribly outdated. Hardly anyone uses ImageReady anymore. In this day and age, you can make an animated GIF directly in CS5, online - even in Powerpoint, whatever rocks your boat. If I had time, I could make a CS5 stamp tutorial or something - however, there are some awesome tutorials for that already, so why reinvent the wheel?
I haven't got time to reply to all the comments I get for this deviation, or respond to all the faves - so comments are disabled for now, sorry!
Last but not the least: this tutorial is far from perfect. I don't make stamps anymore. I am a published manga artist, I draw manga and illustrations and do workshops (and have been doing so since 2004, would you believe!). I really am somewhat disappointed that this tutorial got noticed and recognised more than any work that I put my heart and soul into.
So thank you for your interest - and please check out other art in my DA gallery, or on my website www.irinarichards.com.
Thanks! Peace and love all around ^^

i tried this out, but can't get through step 5, every time i want to add in a new frame, it just replaces the old ones with the new ones. it's very upsetting. i'm following the directions, but i'm not sure what's going wrong.

every time i try and paste the second slide into the animation strip of the first slide it adds only part of slide 2 to slide 1. so instead of something saying hello it now has hello with sunshine going through it vertically. i don't know what is wrong. please help. otherwise great tutorial.

Umm, not sure myself - the only suggestion I can make is check your Layers panel. You may have ended up with an unwanted layer there that's "blocking" your image in Slide 2.

I have CS3, without Imageready.
Would you by any chance know the equivalent to doing it in there?
ctrl+alt+m doesn't do anything.
It's okay if you don't know,
I'm just wondering.

Thnx so much for this tutorial, it really helped but i'm having a looot of trouble with step 9.
I can't save my stamp correctly i guess, even if the optimize options are ok. The picture is saved appart from the sides of the stamp...
Can you help me with this problem pls?...

I'm not sure myself on this one - with my stamps usually if you choose .gif format and then do File => Save Optimized As..., it works. Maybe you're using a different version of Photoshop/ImageReady?..

Hi me again...
I got to the animation bit. Each time I paste a new slide onto the second frame both the first and the second frame change instead of just the second one. What should I do????

This [link] may help - make sure you have "Create Layers for each new frame" option ticked.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1
irinarichards In reply to xxZutaraFanxx [2009-02-09 17:04:23 +0000 UTC]
This could be because your stamp is too big or something. Just upload any small .jpg image as a preview and that should fix it!

I'm trying to put colour over my stamp but it covers the stamp pattern around the edges and so it just looks like a box!! I don't know what to do? I really new to photoshop and so have no idea what to do? Please help me. How do I fill the stamp with colour without covering the pattern...

irinarichards In reply to xxZutaraFanxx [2009-02-08 11:56:07 +0000 UTC]
Just use Rectangular Marquee tool for the tools panel on the left. Select the area that you want to fill with colour, and Edit=>Fill.

You're welcome - a nice stamp, glad my tut was useful!
To keep the "postage stamp" edge - for example, if you're using this template: [link] - your image/text should be inside the gray area and not all the way to the edge.

So, what programs do you need to have? Just Photoshop/Image ready? :3
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
irinarichards In reply to MissDevil1992 [2009-01-18 00:37:23 +0000 UTC]
Yes. You don't need to buy ImageReady separately as it comes in the same package as Photoshop (on the same disc), like an add-on.
