Description
Edit: Part II (digital inking) now available!: [link]Also, eyes tutorial: [link]
Starring Cloud from Advent Children!
Yes, I know that sometimes sketches are Never So Clean as they are in this case... I'll talk about digital inking sometime in the near future in another tutorial. But this is for those who sketch cleanly or who go back and clean up their pencil sketch by erasing and redrawing the lines.
Feedback appreciated! (was it clear? more/less detail? What other stuff would you like to see?)

Yay! That is very nice and clear. I hadn't thought of placing the line on top... that's a great idea. Cool! Way cool. I've wanted to do digital art for a while now, and now I actually have somewhere to start!

cool, but for an outline of the image, inst it best to have a black colour rather than a brown?
thanks!
great job explaining

well, i guess it's a matter of preference. Black is nice and crisp, but brown is softer. ^__^ I'm glad you found this useful!

I commented on this when it was first posted but it seems DA ate my comment? >.<
I really love this tutorial, I just wish I could get my lines as clean as your first step lol. Takes a lot more cleaning for my stuff. >.<
Do you have any tutorials on how you come up with the shapes of your characters in the first place?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
joulee In reply to KrisWood [2006-03-02 06:38:44 +0000 UTC]
lol~ my first steps are generally not very "clean"--this was definitely an exception and involved a lot of erase-erase-draw-erase-erase. For messier sketches sometimes I will ink digitally after I scan it in.
Hmm.. shape of characters? I'm not sure how I go about that... Generally, I start a piece with a face or a mood in mind, and draw the part I'm trying to express first. Also, I sketch a lot. Out of all the pieces that eventually make their way here, I have about 10 other sketches that I'll never finish, in various stages (from reeeeally messy to somewhat formed but I didn't like how it was turning out.) I guess I just keep drawing and once in a while I come up with something that I like enough to actually work on more. ^_^

Oooooh good advice! I guess what I really need to do is draw more lol. I usually do two or three thumbnail sketches then go with it, and end up having more eraser marks than pencil marks in the end. >.<

cute work
i figure it's missing the lock transparant icon so people would know what you're talking about
i can't say that the fuzzy system seems like the best way to me but it all comes down to prefrences.
i could suggest you try, after blurring to push the levels of the new blurred version towards black
that way the soft edges would become a lil harder.
drop by the club, catch the vid on sketch fixing for work and the lineart tuts
cheers
jaako
