Description The Caliphate of Al-Andalus and it's colonial territories

The Caliphate, pushed back as far as Cordoba in the mid 14th century, managed to rally against the northern catholic spanish kingdoms in half a dozen epic battles, with victories only having come straight from Allah himself. Sensing that perhaps the tide was turning against Christianity in Spain, funds and arms from the larger European nations dried up, Kings and Princes distancing themselves from the Reconquista. Soon Cordoba began the push back northward, and when the Spanish kings felt Muslim armies sieging their walls, they found their calls to the north and to the papacy went unheaded...

A century later, Islamic explorers from the Al-Andalus Caliphate, seeking a westward route to China, six heavily modified super-sized Baghlah stumbled upon a scattering of islands in a warm blue sea. Knowing the approximate size of the world, these explorers knew they could not possibly have reached China already. They returned to Al-Andalus with fifteen natives invited to take the return trip, which generated enough of an impression on the ruling class and the Caliph to secure funds for a second trip to the mysterious islands, and a third. After tenative explorations of the American mainland, it was discovered that this new land, the Al-Aradyghrib, was far more substantial than first appearances.

By the dawn of the 20th century, the Al-Andalus Caliphate still maintains extensive colonial holdings in Al-Aradyghrib, but has had to allow substantial regions some significant autonomy to stave off rebellion and revolution, especially with problems at home in Africa and the still largely Christian province of Sardinia.

Balls! Just finished doing a lovely Incan map. I'll have to save that for another time.

Great turn though.

I wonder what their reaction would be to the Iroquois and Vinlanders to the north?

They'd probably be worried about independent attitudes spreading from the north the Andalusians wern't quite as efficient as the Spanish at getting rid of the natives in their territories (although of course plague took it's usual toll) so there are probably significant native groups fighting for their own little bit of autonomy - probably emboldened by the Iroquis' success.

Well, that's true. Though closer to home are the Nordic...or rather Scottish colonies of the Caribbean.

Ah, I doubt there'd be that much worry - "home" is Iberia, after all, and they've got no real hatred just on the basis of being a fellow colonial power.

That would make sense. The Nordics even in OTL never had the sort of zeal the Spanish Reconqista had.

The protectorates over Guatemala* and the Yucatan* were there because I expected there to be some Spanish successor states overtaken by German companies. I gave this Reich the tiny colony Belgium wanted out of Guatemala in OTL.

Lol, that's fine, those areas might well have been colonised by whatever state survives in northern Spain, or someone in *Italy, some minor state that couldn't keep control of it's holdings, which later lost their independance to German fruit traders I imagine the *Honduran autonomous state to have a large minority of Cathars, half the reason it's been a thorn in the Caliphate's side...

I didn't expect you to gobble so much of Spain, and in my edit I actually made more of northern Italy free for use by anyone, but mcd0 kinda... got ahead of himself and didn't add it in so now the Reich is larger than it should be. But I LOVE that effect where it looks like super-Germany is eating France
