I love the tutorial <3 but im still having trouble trying to trace the picture due to I don't know how to make the picture a lighter color to make it easier to trace *points to the girl picture* how do you do that in ps7?

By trace, I hope you mean that you're trying to trace over a sketch you drew yourself. ;3
Anyways, this is a quick fix! Insert a blank layer between your sketch and the layer you intend to do your lineart on. Fill it with white, and then use the slider at the top of the layer menu to adjust the opacity. Set it to around 50%, and you should now be able to see your sketch and your lineart. :3

WOW. This has got to be the best tutorial for the pen tool ever.
was searching for a tutorial, but most of them were really hard to understand or in spanish or something ;_;
will start practicing it in my spare time hopefully i'll be good at it so that one day i might actually even be posting my works on deviantart!

Aww! Thank you! I'm glad I could help out! β₯
I really like your style! It's very organic. :3 My art may look super neat, but it's also stiff because I forget to include natural brushstrokes as well. ;3

Ummm, how do I get the Brush Pilate in CS5?
π: 0 β©: 1
Popo-Licious In reply to shadowolffie [2011-06-10 02:57:53 +0000 UTC]
Copied and pasted from the little FAQ in the description! ;3
-
You can get there three different ways:
1. With the brush tool selected, if you move to the right along the bar that has the brush size, opacity, and flow, you'll come to a button called 'workspace.' You actually want to click the button next to it. It looks like a square with three little lines and three little bullet points. Simple click on it, and the brush pallet opens up. :3
2. On the Photoshop navigation bar, go to Window > Brushes. The pallet pops up after this.
3. Hit the F5 key.
Please not that if you don't have a tablet, you won't be able to tamped with the pen pressure settings. :3

Let me know if you're still having issues! >w<

Thanks I've been trying/not, mostly not due to frustrations in the past to learn the pen tool for literally eons. This was simple and clear...I'm so excited to be able to make the lines I've long for (even though I don't do line art)

Okay I've got everything... except I can't get it to say "Stroke Path" :/ I didn't see it in your faq. So far this is the only tutorial that sounds quick and easy and I really wanna do it cept I can't get it to >.< Would you know why?
π: 0 β©: 1
Popo-Licious In reply to Kawayui-Kage [2011-05-25 01:58:36 +0000 UTC]
If you can't get Photoshop to bring up the Stroke Path Option, then more than likely, you've either got the current layer locked, or you've adjusted your settings for other tools (ex: the Brush) without remembering to reselect the Pen Tool. (The paths will be present even if you've technically got the Brush selected.)

I dl'd PS 5.5 recently when it came out, for the free 30 day trial, and in it, it's 'stroke subpath'
π: 0 β©: 1
Popo-Licious In reply to digimagicnb [2011-05-27 00:17:42 +0000 UTC]
If only the "stroke subpath" option occurs when you try to stroke, it means that you have two paths on one path layer. If you want each stroke to be separated from the next, presumably for the purpose of restroking in the future, you need to put each new line on a separate path layer. (Note that I mean the layers in the Paths menu, not the default Layers menu that you can actually draw on.)
