Description
DescriptionI never feel right making tutorials because, I don't consider myself a very advanced user of Photoshop. I never feel like I'm in the right place telling other people how to do it.And I know this isn't an advanced tutorial, but many people don't know how to do this. I also know there are other tutorials out there explaining this exact same thing. . .
I was asked recently how to get the white off sketch images and it reminded me of how often I really am asked that. So have a tutorial for everyone in the future who needs to know.

I use PS Elements 4 though, so I can't use this. :'c
I hope someday you make one for coloring in the future. I still fail at that haha XD

An excuse for dropping the $800 you don't have.
However I'm trying to remember how to do line gradients in something as old as Elements 2.

i love elements 2, have fun trying to do gradients in it, lawll. you can make a layer of it, ctrl+g it, and set the layer mode to 'color' but other than that you can't really do anything.

You forgot to lock the transparent pixels and link the layers. That seems to work for me.

Ah, well I was talking about if the sketch is on a white BG; aka without transparent pixels.

Halpthiuian In reply to Shinerai [2009-08-04 18:31:53 +0000 UTC]
OK. Yeah it can get a little complicated, then. I always convert the scan to a working layer and delete the white areas. I can then use another layer underneath for my flats without disturbing the lineart. 👍: 0 ⏩: 0
The best way I see to preserve the original bg would be to wand select the linework, then make a new transparent layer and do the
I'll have to try that out and see if it works.

ah, um. hai. i has question ;n;
i attempted to mess around with this (because normally i just use my lines on multiply/reline) but the "circle made of dots" won't work for me, er, basically it won't let me use it : [link]
btw i am using 7.0
is there some setting or something i'm missing?

Nifty! You can also Control-Click on a layer image and it will select the alpha of the layer. Or on a channel and it will select the channel stuff. I just learned this yesterday, I'm not sure I'm explaining it right

Wait.
... I thought you always said you would never make tutorials. o _o
Not that I mind or anything, I'm just utterly confused. xD;
And this method of ridding the white is much more efficient than what I had done (change lineart layer to multiply).

little question. do I have to select the lines again when changing their color? The whole picture turns orange when I fill the LINE COLOR layer! why? what am I doing wrong?
I did everything till step 5. My background is blue, the lines are pulled off. right. but now I do the keyboard thingie with the layer above the LINES layer n' then when I fill, the whole picture turns orange.
Can you help me, shin?

While you're on the LINE COLOR layer, try going to layer > group with previous.
tell me if it works!
