Gouache paints with coloured pencil on watercolour paper

*** This is technically a re-posting of this illustration. I plan to do so with all of my Potter art work, building up to (hopefully) having some new stuff to share there after. So if you feel like you've seen this before - you probably have. On the upside, I'm sharing it at a larger resolution and without the DeviantArt watermark on it now ***

This is one of those paintings that should have been better than it is. I felt the scene so strongly, and could visualize it in my head vividly. But the final version just didn't come out how it was in my head. Don't get me wrong, I'm still happy with it. But I just wish that sense of "Oh my gosh" as Harry calls out to Malfoy to give him the Rememberall - I didn't see it as brash as it was in the movies. But rather the only reason Harry was heard at all, was because he was the only one who said anything at all... does that make sense. Harry isn't the hero yet, but this is his very first moment wearing the shoes of the hero... shoes that he grows into so well.

All that said, I was happy with the way the kids all turned out.

Fun Fact: When I did this painting, I didn't yet know that Blaze was black, so as much as I hate doing it, I went back in later and changed his skin tone. And as mentioned earlier, before the Troll attack, I added the hat to Hermione. I figured as long as I was doing one thing, I might as well go all out!

Nice group shot of the two houses! I love the aerial-ish view that allows for the grass to cover the whole scene.

As I continue to listen to the PS audio and to The Real Weird Sisters podcast, I will visit your site in order to continue my picture book experience. As you can tell I love to gush about artwork so I'd like to send you my feedback. What would be the best way? If anything, I can always create a document for stock-piling and copy-paste my reactions as time goes on until the corresponding art makes its way to dA.

First, thanks for the kind words about my artwork - before and now. It's a treat for me to know people are enjoying it. I would be doing it for myself, no matter what. But it's knowing that people are enjoying it that keeps me sharing it

That said, if you wish to send comments, please do it how ever you feel most comfortable and makes you the most happy. All my stuff will eventually find it's way back to DeviantArt  but if you'd rather send a comment earlier - there is always contact information via my website. I will say, it's simplest for me if you do it here - that way a comment about a specific illustration can stay with that illustration, and as I said, all my stuff will be here eventually.

All right, I will stock pile my comments and post them when you post your art. I see that your pieces for the Halloween chapter are already up. I don't mind waiting because there's the added bonus of reading your artist's notes and your fun facts!

Again, feel free to do what makes you the most comfortable and happy. But yes, here on DevinatArt is my preferred way of correspondence about my art work.

He's the Slytherin closest to Harry, almost parallel with Ron on the opposite side.
