Description The easy way to do this.

Note that I've used the latest, Japanese language only, version of PMD for this tutorial, but the function also exists in the older English language version. It's in the same place in the menu system (Edit>Bone>MasterParentBone).

IMPORTANT
If you are using the English version of the PMD Editor, the name of the bone on the Japanese side is incorrect. The function still works, but replace the label on the Japanese side with the correct Japanese characters: [ 全ての親 ]

Take a good model, see how those bones work, then compare with yours. - Simple ^^

Could anyone help me with this? Every PMD/PMX editor I try, nothing works. After I download the editor and open it, when I click 'open' to upload a model, nothing happens. This has happened with every editor I have tried and I don't know why. I even fixed the missing dll error. It also doesn't work by dragging the pmd/pmx file onto the editor. I don't know whats wrong but I need to add motherbones to a lot of my models and pmd editor never works ;~;

I've been told that with a certain versions of Windows, you need to set the permissions for the dlls to run before the PMD Editor will work, so you might want to look into that.

Does your system also have the dependencies that the PMD Editor needs (Framework, etc.)?

I am not sure :/

Trackdancer In reply to AmandaRocks222 [2014-12-13 21:59:59 +0000 UTC]

Search on DA for PMD installation instructions and make sure you have all the dependencies on your system. If you have the dependencies and the permissions are set then we need to look else where for the cause of your issue.

I just downloaded C++ redistribution package, Direct X, and Net Framework 4 but the this one error keeps popping up (I can't read it, it's in Japanese) and still when I click open, nothing happens. Am I supposed to move these programs into the PMD folder?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trackdancer In reply to AmandaRocks222 [2014-12-14 20:50:07 +0000 UTC]

Those programs are the ones that are needed and they're installed per their d/l exes so you don't want to mess with them. Well at this point, there's something else going on and since we don't know what the error report is saying, there's not much else we can do on this end, sorry.

It's fine ^^ I appreciate your help, though. I believe it says "no plugin found" or something.

Just a thought. If you have a 64-bit machine, have you tried running the version of PMD for that type of machine?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AmandaRocks222 In reply to Trackdancer [2014-12-14 22:19:29 +0000 UTC]

I am not sure what I have

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trackdancer In reply to AmandaRocks222 [2014-12-14 22:32:30 +0000 UTC]

It should say on the folder on the folder name ... 0.1.3.9 is the 32 bit version; can't remember what the version number is on the 64 bit version

Bottomline is that the 64 bit version only works on a 64 bit machine and a 64 it machine can run either versions. So depending on the type of machine you have make sure you have the correct version installed.

If you still have problems after ensuring that you have the correct version installed, please contact the authors of the program fro continued support for their product as there is nothing else we can do on this end.

Other than that, have a great weekend!

What's that bone over it? For some unknown reason it does not work on a model that I made and it doesn't move around so the legs fly into the air.

Trackdancer In reply to BeatlesandWebkinz [2014-09-13 18:55:38 +0000 UTC]

The bone above the mother bone in the Neru model above is her 'center' bone.

If this method doesn't work, look for the tutorial that I made on adding a mother bone manually as that also explains how to set the parent child hierarchy for the entire structure.

BeatlesandWebkinz In reply to Trackdancer [2014-09-13 19:00:19 +0000 UTC]

The adding the mother bone trick works every time. I just forgot the name of the center bone so I couldn't explain.

The center bone on my model broke when I was doing something else with the bones, and I don't know how to fix it. It moves around like it actually works, but when a motion is added, it doesn't move at all. It works with models that have a working center bone, though.

Trackdancer In reply to BeatlesandWebkinz [2014-09-13 19:06:51 +0000 UTC]

Fixing a 'broken' center bone is easy. Just rebuild the associations. If you don't know what these are, look at a model with a working center bone - one of the default Animasa models is best for this as they are simple to understand.

Remember the old rhyme we all learnt in Kindergarten: The what ever bone is connected to the whatever bone and so forth?

Works the same with MMD model bone structures.

You start with the mother bone (sometimes called the 'root')
Then the center bone is connected to that and in turn the leg IK bones are connected to that as are the lower and upper torso bones. And then the chain grows from there.

It really isn't hard once you've got your mind wrapped around it as it really is purely 'logical'.

I know I make duplicates of models when I suspect that something isn't going to work...
I am soooo glad that I found one and the center bone works. Just the head isn't connected... xD
Easy fix...

Thanks for the help though!!!

Thanks for your help. I kinda got a question though. My problem isn't the mother bone... its the bone above it that makes the model move but makes the feet stick? well my model is missing that bone.... and its a big problem. (She can't sit down...) So the bad end night motion fails on her. Any ideas? ^_^:

Trackdancer In reply to 10tater101 [2014-06-08 21:17:34 +0000 UTC]

That's called the center bone - all MMD models have got to have one otherwise MMD will crash if you try to load the model. So, it's there somewhere. Are you using an MMD model edited by someone here on DA? If so, talk to the person who made the edit and ask them (nicely) where they hid that bone and may be fix the model for you? From the rest of your description, it sounds like that bone is in the wrong place also.

helo, here's my short question, after i add mother bone to model, then i display it in MMD, after i move the mother bone along whole model, then I click reset in bone's manipulation, the whole model Not return back to the coordinate axis center but the model just return to the land where i move to, is there any clue can solve about "reset whole model back to center" in pmd editor in bone tab? hope you understand my question, thanks.

Trackdancer In reply to Blastever [2013-12-14 22:13:35 +0000 UTC]

Simple fix - just reset the mother bone manually to the origin (0x. 0y, 0z) - this only 3 clicks in MMD 8.03
