Description A simple introduction on converting PMD models to PMX standard. Also serves as a general overview of some of the materials handling controls available in the PMD Editor when in PMX editing mode.

In some instances the leg IK structures derp after the conversion. This is due to a failure with the PMD Editor failing to read a script that is required to correctly constrain the leg movements. There are two fixes:

1. For advanced users with a good understanding of Windows:

This is actually the simplest solution. To prevent the error from occurring in the first place, simply correct the  title/filename of the script file. It should read: "IK制限角.txt" and the only lines in the file are as follows (verbatim):

左ひざ,-180.0,-0.5,0.0,0.0,0.0,0.0
右ひざ,-180.0,-0.5,0.0,0.0,0.0,0.0

This file is located in the _data folder and usually the filename is garbage which is at the root cause of the problem.

2. The standard fix is here:

No tutorial is going to make this process any easier. It is a very fiddly procedure and frankly the PMD Editor isn't the best tool for this sort of operation and it does need a lot of patience and a good level of skill to get right. Personally, I don't have the patience for doing something like this. But obviously some people do have the patience and skill to do this using this tool and I just their models.

An excellent example of something like this done successfully by someone with the patience/technique/skill to pull off something like this is this model by YamiSweet  :

Hard to say with no info to make even an intelligent guess. That said it is rare that this happens and if I were to look for a root cause for the problem I would look firstly at the following:

(1) A corruption of the mesh
(2) A problem with the physics

All of these issues are complex and it's not easy to explain to a beginner. Try re-converting or have someone else do it for you for the same model (not me - I don't have the time). There could also be an issue with how the PMD Editor is running on your system and if it's not properly set up, such as being able to interpret Japanese language characters, this could be an issue too.

I Have a question you possibly know how to make this expression where some part of the model vanish?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trackdancer In reply to NastyLemon [2014-06-16 00:44:11 +0000 UTC]

Yep I use the 'vanishing trick' quite a bit. Probably needs a tutorial to explain, but the principle is fairly simple.

NastyLemon In reply to Trackdancer [2014-06-16 02:40:24 +0000 UTC]

Ah i see, i would so love you, if perhaps you could make a tutorial, because you see i'm a beginner on MMD.
I do know a few things about PMD & PMX, though this one for me is kinda new.
I've seen this PMX slider on a TDA model before and i really wanted to do that, because i has a model that has a glitch hand, because there's two hands on the same spot.
''the original hand and a glove (Which is the same hand but textured lol).
So, i don't wanna resize it neither make a model separately with the glove or vice versa..
That's why i wanted to use this slider, it would be like very helpfull..

I hope you can understand me, because my english is very poor and my grammar is terrible lol.
But thanks in advance if you do make a tutorial..

Also, could you do as well an tutorial about how to texture Pmx models?...
Like making they all cute like, uhmm... 's Cookie models?.

what version of pmd do you use? and where can i get it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trackdancer In reply to kagaminerin300 [2013-11-11 03:31:27 +0000 UTC]

I use two versions of the PMD Editor:

PMD (English) version 0.0.6.3 which is really a bit dated and cannot handle large files and PMX format models.

PMD version 0.1.3.9 which is the most current 32-bit application for editing PMD/PMX/x file models. This is the version I use the most, but it only comes in Japanese.

These programs are pretty popular. You should be able to find links to download these applications by using Google search or the DA search box.

What I mean is that .pmx should work like .pmd files but when I load a motion for a .pmx files it just stand still like statue

Trackdancer In reply to ritsuuma [2013-06-24 10:03:35 +0000 UTC]

I have never heard of something like this happening, but I have a rough idea what might the roots causes might be and it's probably hardware related. This is not something I can help you with as I can't physically access your computer. You will need someone who can to fix the problem.

It might help if you installed Japanese language support.

ritsuuma In reply to Trackdancer [2013-06-25 04:41:13 +0000 UTC]

I don't even know how to install it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trackdancer In reply to ritsuuma [2013-06-25 05:30:35 +0000 UTC]

Go to the Microsoft website and search for "Windows 8 Japanese language support" - I'm assuming you're using Windows 8, if not substitute with your correct OS version. The Japanese language support is built into the Windows OS since XP.

Honestly, if you cannot do something as basic as this, you're going to have big problems with MMD in general as a lot of it requires that you be able to operate in the Japanese language even if you don't know the language (like me).

If you're serious about editing models or even taking MMD further than just loading stock motions, you will need to be fairly conversant with the principles of 3D animation, 3D modeling and be competent with the use of your own computer in general. Otherwise, you're just going to be setting yourself up for failure. On the one hand, it seems daunting at first but many people have been able to overcome these hurdles and are having not only fun, but doing a lot of creative things in this media.

There are a lot of tutorials around also, not just mine, which you should make it a point to read as these will save you from a lot of grief moving forwards. There is a steep learning curve when you first start, but if you're willing to invest the time to learn, it really will be well worth the effort.

You need more memory or to increase your virtual memory.

hhhmmmm do you have any idea how to do it the way aroun ? pmx to pmd?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trackdancer In reply to AKIRANOKU [2013-02-09 08:24:16 +0000 UTC]

Mostly you cannot do it the other way around because you can't really downgrade a PMX model. You can do it manually if you know what you're doing, but it's a big hassle.

AKIRANOKU In reply to Trackdancer [2013-02-09 08:35:22 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like you have not installed the software correctly. There are tutorials around on how it should be installed, just search for one of them. You're probably missing one or more of the three other components required to successfully run the application.

yeah i kinda am confused because ive been successfuly using the English translated one so im kinda lost i have all of the things needed

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trackdancer In reply to pikachus-da-best69 [2012-12-26 19:28:28 +0000 UTC]

If the English translated one works, version 0.1.3.8 should also work as they require the same components. Something, else is going on. Maybe you're just clicking on the wrong controls. Can't tell when I can't see what's going on.
